What coils do you use- new E trac user..

While I'm waiting to receive my E trac, I've been trying to determine a "good" mix of coils for it. I'm looking at the 10x12 SEF and X-5 right now. If you are experienced with your machine and have a good feel for what coils are the best our there, please let me know. I do a lot of park/ball field, etc. hunting with my MXT Pro, but plan to get into open area hunting like farm fields, etc. with this new machine as well. Thanks in advance. Shawn

I do not think I would invest in a 10X12. I know some who love the 10x12 and some say they didnt like it. I do not think there would be that much of a performance difference over the stock coil to justify spending the extra money, unless your rich of course......Lol

I think I would pick up either a x-5 or the 6x8, or both.

Well, I've only had mine for a few months but I did buy the X-5. I do a lot of hunting in heavy trash and also the woods. I was getting pretty frustrated in these two environments with the stock coil. The X-5 changed all that. In my ground the stock coil was seeing so much ground the noises were driving me nuts. In the woods and brush it snagged everything. With the X-5 things just seemed to come together for me and the E-Trac. Now I'm very happy with it. It separates really good in the trash and swings well in the woods and brush.

It's hit surprisingly deep targets for a small coil. I've also heard a lot of good things about the small 6x8 SEF. Don't know that I need two small coils though.

Still use the Pro Coil on the beach or in non trashy fields.

One day I just might get a WOT 15" for the beach but for now I'm happy with what I've got. Well, for the next week or so.....

I agree about not using the 10X12 as your main coil. I believe the depth is about the same and it's on the heavy side.

I have a 12X13 NEL Tornado on order. They weight just a little more and are more sensitive and more powerful. I think it will give me another 1" - 2" and that is enough. That will hopefully become my main coil and then the 6X8SEF for trashier spots. I also think that Sharpshooter coil is nice. It might be better than the 6X8SEF.

Keep us posted on what you think about the NEL. I know Ray has one and I have seen him pull some good targets with it.

Thanks for all the input so far. Anybody know where I can find the good deals on the X-5 and 6x8?

Well, I have two rods so I'll mount the NEL 12X13 on one and the stock on the other. I'll cross check some deeper signals. I also want to cross check with the V3i but need the rain to take a bigger break, that is a 4 hour project and hopefully it stays above freezing! Been lucky, at this time last year I was sleighing with my daughter on 6" of snow!

I am so impressed with the 6x8 since I actually started using it more often, what impresses me is its depth capabilities. I dug a seated dime today at 9 inches, with sensitivity in auto +3 and it was on 25....now that is impressive!

I've got a 12x15 sef and the 6x8 sef I like the bigger coil for hunting fields to cover ground faster when I pick through the hot spots then I go back through them with the stock coil or 6x8

Myself i would stay away from bigger coils right now and being you will be new to the E-Trac it is nice to make it as simple as possible. I have tried many different coils on the Explorers and now the E-Trac and found the Sun Ray X8 is a excellent coil for many area I detect and have a 6X8 SEF coil and it too seems to work good for most place I been that a small coil is needed. I had a X-5 for a while and it is good also, but found the I can use the X-8 in my trashy areas. I used to have a Joey coil too and it seem to work real good too, but like my X8 and the 6X8 SEF coil a little better for my use. I have the 10X12 coil also and really ha vent used it yet and just found a used NEL coil too to try in the spring to see how it will work. At this time for a bigger coil the X-12 has done the best for me, but like i say I have the 10X12 and a 12X13 NEL coil I ha vent tried yet and will try them in the spring. If I could only have 2 coils it would be the X8 and the stock Pro coil for those that I have tried.

I've only used the Pro-coil in the 2 years I've been swinging the E-Trac. Right now If I were to add another coil to the arsenal, I'd probably go with the 6x8 SEF. I'm also going to look a little harder at this Tornado coil though.
