What Did Jesus Look Like?
He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
Isaiah 53:2
Let's consider what Jesus looked like. This is really fascinating to a lot of people. Certainly it has perplexed artists throughout history. And isn't it fascinating that there is no physical description of Jesus given in the pages of Scripture.
We know that He was a relatively ordinary looking person because the Prophet Isaiah said, "He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him" (Isaiah 53:2). So Jesus would not necessarily have been strikingly handsome. He would have been somewhat normal looking.
In the temple one day, the people took up stones to throw at Jesus, but He walked right past them (see John 8:59). He couldn't have done that if He had an unusual appearance. In other words, He didn't walk around with a halo over His head. I'm not saying that with irreverence. I'm just pointing out that He was a man. He did not appear to be God in the physical sense.
Now the Bible doesn't tell us what His hair color was. It doesn't tell us what His skin color was. But we know He was a man. We know He had a beard. He was Jewish, and in those days it meant He probably had dark hair and dark eyes.
But I don't think it's of any great importance if His skin was light or dark, if His eyes were brown or blue. God didn't give us that information. You know, God knew our propensity for idol worship. He probably did not give us a physical description of Jesus because He knew we might make an image and bow down before it.
God told us as much about the appearance of Jesus as we need to know.

Since He was probably ordinary and maybe even homely looking,(comely)... just how many people would follow Him today?
Most people want to honor and glorify those who are in their eyes beautiful and shapely! I think Jesus' personality of love and caring is why they who followed Him did! I believe His eyes were (are) the soul of His humbleness and purity and whoever truly looked into them knew who He really was (is)! God's Holy Spirit is Who shows us who Jesus is when we seek, search for and find Him after His resurrection!
God Bless!
