Today I was hunting a site that has gave me some
good coins in the past. Well I was hunting in advanced smart with the top middle and right hand
side accepted plus a small square for nickels because it's a bit trashy and I wanted to just get
the good signals.
I had the sensitivity at 22 manual with no falsing, recovery fast, audio normal, gain at 6 and was using the 10 inch coil.
I got a wonderful soft signal that repeated both
left to right and top to bottom. The depth gauge
showed around 8 inches or a little more. The crosshairs were high and right.
My usual procedure when checking a good signal like this is to have the back button linked to sounds. So I just push back and I can check the
signal in ferrous (a tip from Ralph), which I did
and the sound stayed high and sweet.
Then I push detect which after the first time will
jog you into digital which read 26 to 28.
It appeared to be a deep penny or a deep thin dime. The crosshairs never really went over the
top of the screen.
So I pinpointed the best I can and dug down 10 inches, nothing in the pile, went over the hole
again, target still there. Pinpointed again showed
maybe a little more to the right. So I peeled the
right side of the hole away and finally get a
buzz from my pinpointer at about 6 inches down
and it ends up being this crappy little nail(the
dime is shown just for size).
What do I have to do to avoid this besides running
in deep recovery? Is this just the nature of the
beast?
