What do I need to take on my first time coin shooting?

What do I need to take with me on my first outing?

Do I need something to hopefully put my finds in?

Do I need any other equipment besides a metal detector?

And what are clad coins?

You need a little digger if your hunting yards and parks. If hunting open farms fields a small shovel works well.

Get yourself a pouch with maybe two pockets, one for trash and one for your keeper's, coins, rings and other goodies.

Clad coins are common everyday coins that you find in your pocket today.

Just start reading the different forums and asking questions here at Findmall, there are forums here that cover just about every metal detecting machine out there, go to the jump to forum button at the top of this forum and a drop down list will show up and show all the different forums. There's a lot of great information out there in the form of books also.

Welcome to the hobby Florrie :detecting: , you'll gonna enjoy it as you start learning and finding more stuff and understanding your machine as time goes by

A metal digger and a plastic digger. I use a small backpack, instead of a pouch. Course I dig a LOT of trash. I also carry a blunt screwdriver and a long screwdriver, makes recovering shallow coins easy as can be.

.... One accessory I find invaluable is a pinpointer to help you locate a target still in the bottom or side of your recovery hole. A decent pinpointer will save you a bunch of time and energy as well as help you keep from damaging a valuable old coin.

Welcome to the forum florrie and good luck on your hunting.

I do not get on this forum much .... but... these forums can keep you going even though you get discuoraged.... what detector do you have?

You don't need much and the other guys have covered it... I've detected over 35 years and never had a pinpointer... would be nice but not a critical item to start. Take something to drink ... digging in the dirt will make you thirsty after a few hours.
By respect and integrity I mean ..... always respect other peoples property ... dig small holes and fill them ... when you leave it should look like you've never been there. most important ..... have a great time !!
BTW... the best finds always come when you aren't expecting to find anything good.

Extra batteries. I also carry a small plastic film container or pill bottle to put the good finds in. Stuff it with some tissue paper to use as padding. And, take a digital camera to get pictures for us to enjoy! Good providence.

It is basically a mini detector that you typically use when you have opened your hole and are in the process of finding the coin. It tells u where the coin is.
