What do they really cost

Just curious. What do you think it really costs to make a minelab, not including overhead, research, advertising. Just the materials.

I would guess about $50. but it depends on what you include.

Minelab is the best detector I have ever used. I don't like the price of gas or food but I am not going to quit driving or eating. Just enjoy the hobby.

Cost of research and development
cost of workers
cost of overhead such as buildings, warehouse
Cost of taxes
Cost of making machinery to make the parts
Cost of engineering teams
Cost of molds which by the way are mucho expensivo!
Cost of display adds in all the magazines

I wonder if they really make that much over and above all their expenses after all is done and said.

Depends really how many units they sell. Anybody have a guess?

It costs about $ 3,000 a part, just for the mold. A few cents to less than a buck for each part after that (per 10,000 production run).

More for the carbon graphite lower rod.

The electronics board couldnt cost more than $ 50.00.

About $ 20.00 for the custom wiring.

I would be surprised if they spent more than $ 150.00 in actual production cost. Most of the cost comes before that, as previously said. Salaries, custom design, custom production, travel, shipping, marketing expense etc etc.

Another way of looking at it is that a manufacturer of a limited demand good must sell to dealers at least 2-3 times his production cost to make it worth his while. Dealers themselves make anything between 20 to 40 % depending on volume sales and bargaining power.

Injection molds are very expensive especially ones large enough to make the S shaft halfs. You can spend $100,000 on an injection mold quite easily.
