What do you think of the Garrett Ace 250?

DK

New member
Have a chance to get a new Ace 250 and have been hearing good things from some locals about it, but would like you alls or y'alls opinion. Threw that in there for the benefit of our southern brethren.:wiggle:

For the money it is a great machine. There are other units that will do more than it can, but I have recommended it to many people.

Light weight, turn on and go machine. Uses only 4 - AA batteries. Good depth (found a single shot from a 00 buck shot at 9 inches). Had one and was great for taking along on trips. Who knows where ya might be able to detect so nice to have handy for a quick search. Lightweight enough to spend hours detecting and not tiring of swinging it. Sold the one I had only because my mother-in-law was in a nursing home, lost all her possessions including her home and she needed money at the nursing home. I would have kept it otherwise. Great little machine.

we have one and it's a nice little machine and seems to work very well. I have only used it twice but with good results.

Lightweight machines, you are able to discriminate if needed. We have couple of different coil sizes we use. Highly reccommend them.

Hey DK, My advice? Buy it!
There simply isn't a better metal detector on the market today, for the dollar, than the Garrett Ace 250. I bought the Ace 250 a year ago and used it for the entire season and found more coins, jewelry, etc. than I ever did with my old White's metal detector. The only downfall the Ace 250 has is that it sometimes tells you your coil is over a dime, when it's actually over a soda pop or bear can. This spring I took the plunge and purchased the Garrett GTP1350. It's a fantastic detector but the Ace 250 comes close to it in many respects. I donated the Ace 250 to the boy's club at my church and they'll earn a merit badge in metal detecting with it. You can't go wrong buying an Garrett Ace 250 and to quote my local dealer, "You'd have to spend $600+ and buy the White's M6 to come close to what the Ace 250 does for less than $250.00". So there you have it. Go for it!

Thanks for all of your advice. I think I am going to get this machine and give it a try. Have a chance to get a Minelab, used, but have not decided on it yet. My Garrett Master Hunter is a great machine, but with it being an older model it lets you know it after a couple of hours of swinging. Hard to get any coils for it. The one I have is a 7.5 co-planar. Works great and have found quite a bit. Will continue to use it. Joans detector, the Bounty Hunter 101 is good too. I used it the other day and found quite a bit of clad.

Where ya getting it at? Also what Minelab are you looking at?

Kelly co has a good buy on the detector now 212.00 plus 19 for the pro max pin pointer, thats if you buy the metal detector, make sure I read that right lol.I will get my daughter one I hope by the 15th of next month!

Hey Rick. That is a good deal with KellyCo. A friend of mine here in Connersville, got that deal and he is real happy with it. I am getting the whole package and will give it a try. KellyCo is the best deal I have found so far in my searching.

Hey Mike--Looking at getting one from KellyCo. They got a package for $212.00 or a deluxe sports package for $297.00. The Minelab I was looking at is a X-Terra 30. Don't know much about Minelabs, but hear they are pretty good. Got any input on it. Asking price is $375.00, but might be able to give less. No extras with it.
