What Gain does on Goldbug or G2?

Hello all G2 and Goldbug users, I a bit confused after reading G2 manual about Gain? Gain is sensitivity on G2? or like on explorer if Gain on max all targets deep and shallow sounds the same loud and no any different in volume? Thanks Stasys

The gain control controls gain. The threshold control controls audio threshold.

Controls on other products labelled "sensitivity" usually control gain, threshold, or a combination of both.

Alright mister engineer, enough tech double talk! What is it in plain English already? And if you don't know just day so.

I have one of these and its easy. Left knob is on/off volume. Middle buttons are up/down and the other knob is sing or beep.
When it quits making noise change the battery. Stop and dig up money once in awhile so you can buy more batteries.
What's so hard about this? Why make it complicated?

(Dear Lord don't let anyone take one word of this seriously, please. Yeah, I know its late.)

Yes you are right Dave about terminology, but traditionaly we use world sensitivity, and Minelab use Gain in a bit different use. My question is answered in G2 sensitivity is gain ,but not gain like in minelab. :surrender: Thanks
Pasttom -good luck in changing batteries and dont forget to buy new all the time , because rechargeable is very complicated--keep it simple!

definitions of the words

Gain : the amount of increase in signal power or voltage or current expressed as the ratio of output to input.

Sensitivity: the ability to respond to physical stimuli or to register small physical amounts or differences

 guess there is a difference and the words are very different.

Low "gain" has about half the detecting field as high "gain".
This is not a volume knob of any kind. It is changing the sensitivity.
At low "gain" you can detect a dime at around 5" or 6". Nothing beyond that.
No whisper at 9". No effect on the detector at all at 9".
At high "gain" you can hear the dime easily at 9" and beyond.

The reason it's important to know whether it's sensitivity or something else is:
You need to turn down sensitivity sometimes to get more separation.
Turning down preamp gain would not help the target separation.

And dont forget you may need to ground balance anytime you adjust the gain.
