What I think of the new Detech Ultimate 13" coil after several hunts in the field.

First let me say I payed full price plus extra shipping to get this coil and am in no way connected to any dealers or manufacturers of said coil.

I have been using a certain 12x13 coil for quite a while with spectacular result but was not happy with it's substantial weight increase over the stock Pro coil. When I learned about the new Detech 13" Ultimate and the fact that it was only slightly heavier than the Pro coil i had to give one a try.

Ordered from Kelly Co and got it the next day as agreed upon.Took it on a short road trip with a couple of fellow forum members and it hit all targets that we compared with them using another brand of 13" coil.

I have hunted several hard hit public sites and have been quite impressed with the way this coil is able to hit good targets in heavy trash considering it's large foot print. My E-Trac runs quiet and smooth with no extra emi issues over the smaller stock coil.

I have found it to give me a solid inch or more depth over the stock Pro coil on dime size targets both in the test garden and the field where it counts the most.It is also very sensitive to smallish targets considering it's size.ID numbers are the same as stock coils for me and depth meter is only slightly off as expected with larger size coils.

The white color is different but no big deal as I remember when most coils were white years ago LOL.

I can and do recommend this coil with a clear conscious to any one seeking a bit more depth and or coverage in most areas other than those extreme trashy sites that obviously require a smaller coil.
The extra coverage without a ton of extra weight is nice in those more open areas where you can crank up the E-Trac and cover some ground. It was a dream to use in some of my more open field relic sites as well.

The stuff pictured was all found at public sites with the Ultimate 13" other than the relics,Ray.

PS. All testing and detecting results were in Western MO and Eastern KS.

Great report, thanks! Looks like you KILLED the coins!

KellyCo is said to be going to carry it for the BBS machines come mid May. I love the 12x10, so I have to ask if you've compared the 13 incher depth wise to the 12x10 and in terms of separation?

In my moderate to heavy mineralized soils the 12x10 is deeper and of course has much better separation than my stock 10" coil, but I found the 15x12 was just seeing too much ground matrix and thus got less depth than the stock coil or the 12x10. It was odd but I found the 15x12 gave it's best ID at depth with a somewhat much lower sensitivity setting than what was max stable. My theory is running it too hot just took in too much ground matrix and washed the target signal away with it. For that reason I suspect about 12 or maybe 13" is about the max coil size I can go to and still see improvements in depth in my soil, so I have to wonder if the 13" Ultimate will still show gains in depth (if it is indeed deeper than the 12x10), or if pushing it that one extra inch in increased coil size is just too big to show any depth improvements in my soil. This isn't an uncommon thing, as I know of guys who say they get better depth out of an 8" coil than they do with their 10" coil due to how bad their ground minerals are.

Can I also ask how mineralized your ground is? If it's very mineralized and yet this coil is deeper than the 12x10 then you've really got my interest peaked. One thing that can change just how big the coil can be in terms of not soaking in too much ground signal is how well defined and sharp the detection field is. Some goes have a real "fuzzy" or undefined detection field and so they sit and soak in more ground stew than other coils. That's one of the reasons I suspect the 12x10 is deeper in my soil than just being a bigger coil, and also why it runs at higher sensitivity settings than the stock 10" coil...Because it's riding on and "seeing" less ground than the 10" coil due to the super tight detection field it generates in the left/right perspective and also has a less "fuzzy" field that is more sharp and defined...If you can understand what I'm trying to say.

Again, thanks a ton for the field report on what sounds like a fantastic coil!

Perfect review Ray! I experienced very similar results and can say this coil is a winner without a doubt!

I wanted this coil for my ETRAC, and I ordered one through KellyCo recently, only to get an email that it's been back-ordered. On the website it said it was available, and to me that's just unacceptable for a business to pull a bait-and-switch. Sure, we'll take your money, but that item we said we had, well we don't, so you have to wait. Um, no. I contacted KellyCo and told them I wanted a refund. I'll go elsewhere the second the money is back in my acct. As far using KellyCo ever again? Never. You don't pull that crap with customers. If it's not available then list it like that, and don't tell people AFTER they order it and pay for FedEx two-day shipping. So, any dealers that have one and want to sell, I'm all ears. After reading Bryce-Il's review of this coil I definitely wanna put it on the ETRAC. Glad to see another un-biased review of it, and how well it performed in the field.

Also, if anyone has used KellyCo in the past and had an enjoyable experience, then that's great. I don't need a ton of replies telling me. I didn't, and my venting about this is, is my experience. Thanks.

Thanks Ray-Mo, I have one on order and just waiting on it to arrive. Ive heard reports that this coil hits harder on deeper targets do you find this true? Also do you feel the numbers are more stable on deeper targets over the pro coil? Thanks for the feedback and HH.

I do not have my 10x12 coil anymore as I prefered the Pro coil on my E-Trac so can not say and also sold my old Sovereign over a year ago.I do believe the 13" Ultimate hits harder than the Pro coil on deeper coins .I believe my soil minerals runs from moderate to severe in a few areas.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with Kellco but you must realize they are a rather large company and as such are going to make a mistake from time to time concerning sold out items .On the other hand I have found that they make it right if given the chance,Ray.

Thanks Ray-Mo. I may reconsider. Just a little PO'd right now over it. Thanks for the review. This made my decision easy.

Thanks for the report Ray-Mo. Between what you've said, what Bryce reported, and what I've read of others' opinions, I'm convinced that this coil needs to be in my arsenal. But I'm afraid I'm also with Ronfin about the Kellyco experience. I ordered the ultimate coil from them on April 7!!! I still don't have it and they still can't give me any more information on its arrival than they could on the 10th of April when someone there called to tell me that it was back ordered and could be another week. Well.........it's been a month solid and I'm still waiting. I've made several phone calls and no one can/will give me any info. I've not asked for a refund yet, and they've not offered it, but I'm definitely looking for another source. Does anyone know of another company that has the coil in stock? I've spent a lot of money with Kellyco over the years and, while I understand the issues that can come up with customs and foreign orders, I feel they dropped the ball on this one. I would really like to swing this coil before the summer heat makes the ground too hard to hunt here, and that's just around the corner. HH

Kellyco is the only stateside dealer that carries the Detech (13" DD Ultimate) coils.-----They are on back order for the Teknetics detectors also.-----It's a bummer, I want one to but can't get it.---------Del

Hey Guys, Its been about 3 weeks for me also. I talked to kellyco yesterday(5-:geek: and they said they got conformation and that they should be there Friday. So that means next week everyone should start receiving them. We will see. I just hope kellyco ordered a whole freighter full of them when they placed their order.

They should send them by next day delivery if they care at all about customer statisfaction.

Nice Ray thanks for all the hard work !!!!

Great report Ray.. Great finds... I believe & agree with most everthing you say .The only thing I might add is that in some soil, like mine there is very little if any depth advantage and the loss of seperation is more of a liability than the extra coverage is an asset.. The extra weight is minimal over the Pro coil and is really a delight to use but in the soil I hunt, the Pro coil gives both the best audio & VID on the deep iffy targets and if there are any seperation/masking issues and it comes down to a combination of depth, stability and seperation the Pro Coil and the X-12 will almost always prevail., "Round Here"... wildherre.

Thanks Ray, If you run your e-trac at manual sensitivity 26 and still have stable operation with little emi issues I like the sounds of that.

Looks like that Ultimate has served you well. Some nice finds there!

I picked up the Ultimate's competitor a few years ago, the same size NEL TORNADO and my silver especially deep silver skyrocketed exponentially with that coil.
If the Ultimate is ever offered in black here in the States, i just might pick one up next Spring and compare the two.
