What I would like to see on Garrett detectors..

This is an either or pic. Would like to see the pinpoint mounted on either the front or back of the grip via a soft rubber or vinyl compression button. Would be real quick and handy and a great selling point.

Hey Bill, the Prizm has a on and off pinpoint button so you don't have to hold it on. Really like that feature over having to hold in on with my old 1500. Works great with a glove on. Also last signal displayed stays on untill a new one is detected. I don't know how many times I looked at the display and saw the 25 cent showing so went back and found it. This years is wierd, found 6 double 25 cent coins and 3 triple coins. The last triple was 1970,1972 and 1976 about 5 inchs down. Some guys out there were complaining about the weight of the 12 1/2" coil but do nothing about it. Go figure. Stan

I agree Bill it would be handy...I'm thinking the thumb operated version.

(Trigger out front for pinpointing and switching desc. modes)
Seems to work really well. I'd also like to see surface elimination on more of their newer machines. My old 1000 PM has this feature and I use it alot in some of these older parks.

Great Idea Bill. that would be a lot better. Good Point to bring to their attention. Especially if they could get it on the next machine coming out.

Bill's pinpoint button on the handle is a great idea, but I would be happy if they even just rewrote a few dozen lines of software code so that the current button worked so if you pressed the pinpoint button once it would go into pinpoint mode and stay that way until you pressed it a second time at which time it would go back into operate mode.
The main problem is having to keep constant pressure on the pinpoint button which can be hard to do with gloves on especially during the colder months when you are likely to be wearing thicker gloves.
Changing the software should only take a competent programmer a couple of hours to do, if that.
Doing something about the poor ergonomics of having to hold down the pinpoint button has been suggested time and time again on this and on other Garrett forums. It is somewhat disappointing that they have chosen to ignore such consistant and widespread feedback from their customers.

How about a double frequency machine. I don't mean 2 frequency, but a machine that utilizes a VLF component and a pi component. The PI component would be used to locate a target, perhaps in deeper or heavy-mineralized conditions, and the regular VLF would be used to fine tune the target, to see if it is worth digging. Oh, and yah, make the darn thing water-proof. It would be a great machine for hunting in fresh water.

Exactly my point.
A grip mounted button would alleviate all that. Plus it would be snazzy looking. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

That's what I was thinking. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Yeah there are many little changes that could be made that would make things much simpler and probably sell a few more detectors. I often wonder what the boys in the back room are thinking when they are designing these machines.

Been condidering putting a pinpoint toggle on mine for some time now, warranty is up, what the hell right?

Go for it but I like the grip-mounted button better. Now if I can just talk Garrett into it. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Would you need a seperate weather cover for this trigger mount configuration. Im not sure about the push once pinpoint button, I like all the buttons in that main screen area, but by holding the pinpoint button to activate constant pinpointing ensures you that the function will not be left on. By keeping your finger on this button, also allows the user to fully focus on this mode. With the imaging feature also, I find that there is also a recovery time that is needed if you keep the pinpoint button held down to long. I find that being a manual functioning button, it allows me to move in on the target in pinpoint mode, swing the coil a few times and then back off the target; then go back in again for a more discrimatory check while providing me with even more discretion on whether to dig the target.
But thats my opinion. Jason, Canada
