what is a good book on Identifying older bottles looking to buy one Thanks

back in the day Kovels use to make a good bottle price guide but some of there issues concentrate too much on commemorative bottles which for the most part arent nearly as collectable as the books might have you believe... you may want to google the words. Antique bottle price guide. and see what comes up... amazon sells a few different ones which they also post reviews about that might help guide your decision..

Depends on your specialty, if you have one. I still use the ones I've had for decades, but I'm sure there are other, newer ones that are good. I've always enjoyed medicines and bitters. Here's a few books I have and can recommend. You'll have to find used ones, as they are out of print. For general info on all types of bottles I have "Collecting Bottles", a hardcover book by Cecil Munsey. Another general book I have is "A Treasury of American Bottles" by William C. Ketchum, Jr. Lots of nice photos, many in color. For medicines I still enjoy and use "19th Century Medicine In Glass" by Bill & Betty Wilson. This is a soft cover from 1971 and finding one in good shape at a decent price might take a bit of time. There are many others. Check out bottlebooks.com. Digger Odell has a number of good specialty books on bottles.
