[attachment 117848 oldknifepicture.jpg]Here's the old knife I found a couple of days ago while out with the garrett. Joan says her grandmother had one many years ago, but she can't remember what she called it.

If I can get the picture posting thing to work, Mike from MI is a very good teacher. If it doesn't work, I am a very bad student!!!!

I have found many knives over the years. My first guess would be that the blade is not all there. It appears to be very old, and i am not sure they had hobby knives as old as it is. The handle and blade looks to be like a regular old butter knife. In fact when things broke back then they sometimes would re-work them to be used in another fashion. Neat find either way! :)

Looks like an old butter knife to me, also! Never know what is to be found in the ground, as the grounds have always been here! :) God Bless! Betty

Well the handle does look like an old butter knife, but I think I saw one like that in my Grandma's silver set, too. Although it is definitely not silver - she used it for cutting pate & soft cheeses. You know little soft spreadable things to go on crackers.

Thanks for the input. Looked like a butter knife when I first found it too. I talked to a friend of mine at an auction today, and as he owns an antique store here in town, he is going to look at it and let me know what he thinks it might be. The blade seems to be wider than the handle, at the point where the handle and blade meet. I though it might be some sort of icing knife or spreader. As you can tell, it is pretty well corroded, but am going to try and soad it up a little to see if it helps any. I will just add it to my collection of finds. When I find my first cache of uncirculated silver dollars, I may part with it!
