What is it?

I found this relic while detecting around a house dating to 1740. I believe it is brass or bronze. Any ideas? Randy (NJ)

Jim , I don't know. It is pretty heavy for its size. Do you know of any pistols that would have this configuration? PS I believe there was some old black gunpowder in it when I cleaned it but no sign of a lead ball.

Hi Richard.

Thanks for the info, do you have a picture of the complete pistole you could send to me? I would love to see what it looks like complete. Randy (NJ)

and it looks just like yours except a little more complete as the nipple is still intact as well as the tang for the grip. I was also told by experts that it was a boot or purse pistol. Very cool find!
