This piece was given to me by afellow that dug this up along the banks of the Detroit river in the city of Wyandotte Michigan.
The area this was found in was one a Indian settlement .
Not sure what it could be
 
With nothing for a size reference, the first thing that pops to my mind is a ball from a "ball and chain" worn by prisoners a couple hundred years ago. It looks a little like a broken loop on top of the ball, and that loop looks to me like it could be wrought iron.
