What is it?

Pump organ reed....missing the thin, middle vibrating part.
Notice the F at the top, that is the key for this reed.

Pump organs were very popular in homes from the 1800's to the early 1900's.
Some were very ornate and big, others were smaller and less fancy...I believe they were more popular and in more pre-1900 homes than pianos.
I have found many in older home sites.

When the electric organ was invented in the early 1900's that was the last nail in their coffin.
