Hello everyone.
This is the first time I've posted here, so please forgive me if I mess this up.
I found this today, and don't have a clue what it is. It measures about 6" by 4" and appears to a chunk of melted metal. It's non magnetic and reads 10% in the prospecting mode when air tested. It's hard, and will make a ringing sound when tapped against a hard surface. I scraped a section of it, and it comes up shiny, and looks like nickel or silver. I think I've attached two pictures, (like I said it's my first time). Does anyone have any ideas as to what the heck it is.
Thanks
Rick

1971 US Quarter. Seems to be hidden by some encrusted metalic slag, though.

Rick,
Welcome to a great Forum.. When it is up that is..
Could you share the VDI reading on the rock? If it is silver is should read around 78 or higher. A regular nickel "usually" reads 18-20 VDI.
Make sure that your not looking at some run off of poured concrete with a hunk of metal inside.
Lowering your resolution is a great idea when posting. I am growing old waiting to see the whole pic.... Lower resolution won't hurt the viewable picture in the least. Printing a pic is when resolution differences are really noticed. My pics, when posting are kept between 128 - 200 KB.

The VDI is 87 And no it's not concrete. The whole thing seems to be of the same material. Thanks for the advice on resolution

Could be babbit metal (may have misspelled).
They used to make bearings out of the stuff as far as I know. Melts about as easy as lead but is much harder, and will ring if tapped or dropped.
May also be linotype metal from an old printing press. Was commonly used to alloy lead bullets to harden them for use in centerfires.
Just a couple possibilities.
