What is the deepest coin you have found

A fellow soverin detecting fellow I know does not believe we can find coins at great depths.
My deepest was a 1700s farhting at 13-14"
and a Quarter at 12.
Its not like I find them that deep on a regular basis.
out of the thousands of coins I have dug it only happend a few times.
I use a explorer.
If you have got some at a great depth do tell and say what detector you used. and how often it has happend.

I've dug wheat pennies at 9" twice with my dfx.i bought a used xs last year but i have yet to dig anything that deep with it but i'd say that's operator inexperience and less time detecting with it.i just haven't been over anything that deep with the xs yet.

and is just another thing that adds value/devalue to the hobby.
The first thing is some people want to find stuff that deep and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy- well it might have been 8 inches or it might have been 10 inches....there are folks who want to be able to say they found stuff at a certain depth...
Second, there are very few times when a person digs at a foot: that the coin is flat, the dirt easy to go through and the digger dug right down to just above the target, then could stick a ruler in there and measure to get an accurate reading. You can't just measure the depth of the hole! You must know where the target was, figuring that out often an impossible task with all the excitement going on.....
The process has too many variables, including: fumbling a target clod around while the hole gets deeper and deeper before you find the thing.
That being said- here's another thing that happens:
when you dig to a foot you are often digging through a lot of different dirt and rock. The target is on the wall of the hole. You dig beyond the target then widen your hole and move the target to the bottom of the hole. The digging process results in errors on the actual depth again.
I think depth is important. Reason- a lot of stuff that's out there is deep. Consistent 10 inch target hits that turn into good finds are important.
I also think people find stuff very deep. Better headphones, bigger coils, perserverance, wet soil, better luck, better angle, better detectors...
That and most of us detectorists are full of @#$%^.

You probably won't believe this but it was a silver dime at 4 feet. With an old Whites 4800Pro.

7-8 inches constantly on wheaties, 10-12 inches on dime twice. Average depth about 5-6 inches.

Stock coil, wooded site, and it was actually my first coin found with my explorer... havent found a coin as deep since, but have gotten buckles deeper than that

WE HAVE ALL DUG DEEP COINS,OR THOUGHT THEY WERE DEEP,JUST BECAUSE THAT ONE WAS DEEPER THAN THE LAST ONE. BUT TO TELL YOU WHAT i DID, TO PROVE TO ME THEY WERE AS DEEP AS i THOUGHT, i TOOK MY X1 PROBE, WHICH IS ESAGTLY 9 IN. LONG ,FROM TOP TO TIP, MARKED OFF A RULER, THE INCHES, WHICH IS 8 IN. TO THE RIM AT THE TOP,THAN WITH MY DREMAL TOOL, MARKED THE INCH LINES,THAN PUT BLACK PAINT IN THOSE LINES, NOW I KNOW TO THE INCHHOW DEEP I'VE DUG,AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, I WAS'NT DIGGING AS DEEP AS I THOUGHT,NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT I THOUGHT, BUT, THE DEEPEST COIN I'VE DUG WAS A INDIN HEAD,1909 AT 81/2 IN. BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT,TRY IT.

i have only been using my ex2 for a few months, but i hunt three to five times a week .well i use a army shovel to dig with which has a eight inch blade, and i have had to dig past the blade length several times to get down to a coin. so i am guessing about nine or ten inch .but when i comes to odd ball junk made of copper or lead, i know i have dug well over sixteen inches and this is with a 10 inches coil.i have a friend who uses a xlt and is very impressed with how sensitive the ex2 is. wouldn't trade it for any other machine!!!!!

Yah,after he found the silver dime with his ex2,he was still getting a strong signal and uncovered the whites 4800. My guess is the guy buried it out of frustration (hee hee) <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

I have had my ex2 for almost 2 years and man it kick --- I have dug over 10'on dimes and it loves silver I know because I have dug over 200 silver coins with the ex2 would not trade it for 3 detectors

I didn't find it, but as an eye witness, my buddy found a worthless wheat cent in "dry" soil next to a large tree stump at 22 inches. He did not have a probe but I did on my machine. I had an X-1 probe and he did not. As he was digging, I finally got a signal with the probe and followed it. No kidding, he found and dug a worthless wheat cent at over twenty inches????

wow man that takes the cake
at lease you were there to verify the depth
is it possable that the coin was in the side of the hole and buy digging it got jared loose and fell into the hole.
Or did you pluck it out with a probe.
Just woundering because I have never heard of a small penny coming out at that depth.

6in to 10 inches all day long! 12 to 18 once in a while . no bull just fact
