What is the first sign of a bad coil?

Hey all,Ive been hunting, with a 5x10 Joey coil. And lately,it seems I cant get a solid hit on anything except, large Iron or surface targets.Been hunting a street that is being redone, and
the finds are there,I finally found an IH,but it was only 2 inches deep.I am getting lots of chirps and grunts,Hunting in ferrous tones. My buddy went over some ground that I hunted the night before, and found 3 IH's and a barber dime.Im thinking my Coil is done.Any tests I can do to check it out, other than install different coil.I like the Joey, but have 3 other coils I can use.

stan, it might be time to use one of your other coils.
Even if there is nothing wrong with your Joey, since there is a question mark in your mind....
For confidence sake, use your stock or other smaller coils.

Hello its very easy to check-do air test. try to move coil cable when detector works in all length. try on another detector. if nothing will help and you sure that its coil but not detector. if you will not need it, I am looking bad Joy coil for my project. Thanks
