What is the Sunray X1 Probe?

Is this basically a pinpointer attached to the detector and integrated with the machine it is installed on? Usually I hear this is a great one for the Explorer SE

The X-1 is the only probe which will work well with the Explorer turned on, as its 28 frequences will interfere with other probes' signals because the entire range of signals is used with the S E . Me thinks a monopoy is afoot. The X-1 sells a ton to me, you and others.

Does the probe stick out farther than the coil itself? If not then why buy one? Use the coil itself as a probe? I understand the concept but I do not understand as this goes against my concept of sticking a probe inside a hole to probe. How can you do that with the coil??

I see! It is a probe but is held on by a clamp. You unhook probe off clamp and then check the hole. It looks like you have to send in the upper shaft for installation so buying another upper shaft is probably a wise move so you can keep swinging.

The X-probe is a 1" coil. When you purchase it, you have switch box installed on your upper shaft. This switch box allows you to plug in 2 coils to your detector, switching from one or the other. It works exactly like the stock coil you get with the SE. It will display on the smart find or digital display, except it is a 1" coil, not 11". This basically means it detects a 1" circle about 3" down, thus allowing you to pin point with it. I cannot put into words how much it increases your ability to find and dig up your finds with less damage to the top soil. It is the best investment I made so far. Below are some pics of mine.

I can't afford 1 right now but in the future ...

that's how good they are. I have one on my CZ3D and one on the Explorer. Makes finding shallow surface items a breeze and I get at least 3-4" depth with it in pinpoint mode with the Explorer. It's amazing digging an iffy signal and opening the plug... stick in the probe and it sings out a great coin sound. It definitely helps finding items that are on edge, finding that iron in the side of the hole, and keeps you from damaging finds. People say it's not worth the $130, but I say it absolutely is. I tried a Vibraprobe and hated it... too bulky and not enough depth. The inline probe gets great depth, uses your detector electronics, and stows conveniently on-board the machine... no extra junk to carry or lose.

Which, if you think about it, is pretty cool. I remember coming across a spill of coins on the surface. I used just the probe to fund them all, waving it over the surface. The regular coil was useless as the coins were all close together and on the surface. The 1" coil was ideal.

I've also read that they are good for the learn function in the SE. Just wave the object to be learned a few times across the small probe and it gives very accurate input.

Hrmm, a post of mine was deleted. I had put a link into the place where I bought mine, I was very happy. Not sure if that is not allowed. Or perhaps it was me calling charging full price for a new upper shaft assembly ret@rded. Who knows. PM if you want to know where I purchased mine. They offer free shipping, and discount a little bit the upper shaft assembly.

he right near a UPS hub so it gets to you quick. He's also a forum sponsor. Drop me a PM if you need his number and can't find it.

Yep, this is where I bought mine, the only place on the web that was selling the X-1 with a new upper shaft at a discount! (compared to the price all the rest charge) I called there and spoke to Lynn, I believe just when they were in the process of moving. He went out of his way to check for a left handed set up, and shipped it out that day, despite how busy they were. Very nice to do business with them.

I'm still not sure why my first post was removed!

Did u quote a price from some other competitor that is not a sponsor here? Maybe that was it? Why can't someone just fork out $179 for one and install it himself. All I see is some tie vecks ( I thought that is what u called them) to hold probe clamp on and I am not sure what is holding other part of the probe nearest the coil.

I didn't have any pictures of the switch box handy last night when I posted the pictures of the Probe itself. Here are a couple pictures of the upper shaft with the switch box attached to it. A bit more advanced than zip ties. I'm sure a hole needs to be drilled into the upper shaft etc. You plug both of your coils (the 1" probe, and your coil of preference) to the switch box on the outside the shaft, inside, there is a connection that you screw into SE box, where you would normally screw in the cord to your coil. Hope this helped you visualize it.

Thanks guys for the nice messages. We do still have free shipping, however we do not offer the X1 at a discount........Don't get me in trouble with Sun Ray. lol We do charge the lowest price we can. If you place an order before 3:00pm EDT we can ship out same day.

Again thx for positive feedback.
