Found this ring years ago,,will have to get a opinion on it at the jewellers,,odd looks like gold, weighs 5 grams. The odd part is it is pitted under a 10x loop,is this junk? any ideas before get it checkek..the small pits are not rust? just like some erosion,it's one of those finds have no idea if junk/gold.

no hallmarks, just a few letters, had three small stones,red/white/green... hh oj

Look for a number or some lettering on the inside of the ring. Gold rings have numbers while gold plate may hahe the letters GP on the inside of it. If it doesn't have any markings, then it's junk.
Mick Evans.

#1 get it checked by a pro #2 i"v found unmarked gold rings ( some with the marks worn off & some with no marks ) #3 some low K gold will corroded but i"m yet to see pitted gold # congrats on the nice find :thumbup:lazyaussie

If it is low karat gold, anything is possible as some gold does have iron mixed with the gold and other metals to form the alloy. Worth getting it checked out...you never know..good luck, hope it's gold.

With gold at $1000 USD/ounce, take it to your favorite jeweler and let his reputation decide the matter.

Could be gold even though it is pitted. I use a 10X Hastings Triplet to check mine out
and have found gold rings that were pitted. That said, I have also found rings that were
not gold that were pitted too. A jeweler can test it for you. Even though it may not be
marked inside that could be due to a repair or of sizing the ring. Best of luck on it
turning out to be gold. Good hunting to you ! Gene

Hard to tell from the photo but it looks plated to me. I've found many junk rings that have a similar surface. If it's been in the ground for a very, very, long time it might be gold. Have it tested by all means.
