What is this thing

Found on the surface of early Spanish colonial site in Southern Colorado appears to be Cooper brass or bronze heavy for its size

Are there no markings...Patent no. etc.??? Looks like it was turned on a lathe. Needs a reference for approx. size, length, dia., etc. Given that it is tapered makes me think it was used for "shaping or sizing" whatever it was inserted into. SWAG = used in glass making process. ???????????
 
object ts 4.5 inches long. not turned on a lathe, has a cast seam full length. tapered end [see third image] is hollow and thin walled. no strength for being a handle
near tip and 2/3 way up taper is a raised ring like an o ring to seal off liquid. upper 2/3 is solid. putting it in a rock tumbler with jewelers rouge to remove patina and hopefully reveal numbers or patent marks.
could it be the end fennel for a flag or standard pole? was found near old ft mass. and ft garland co.
