Hey guys, new here, first post, and I like rocks lol so figured this would be a good place to come.. found this today, guessing nothing special as I live in southern illinois, but was curious... kinda cool with a light under it lol

Ssoooooo this forum is apparently dead....
No, the forum is not dead. No one has an idea. Now my first thought was that gray stuff that shows up yellow somehow, assuming you were using a white light and not ultraviolet, was not a mineral but some goop that just got on the rock. If using a white light that color makes no sense if it was a mineral or anything else.

Yeah, it was a whiter light, In person the stuff that looks yellow is like a crystal/agate kind of rock it feels like... guess I'll could try a diff light lol

If you can scratch it like with a knife easily it’s calcite. Calcite is soft.

If doesn’t scratch easily it’s some sort of agate

If calcite some are fluoresce and pretty cool under black light.

I cut this stuff and polish.

Here is some examples I find. Really cool when you find fossils made out of this stuff.

Some recent finds that have calcite which I believe your stone is that are fossils. Keep your eyes peeled for crap like this.
