What is your Favorite Beach detector and why???

I have found most of my gold in the water or where there is a heavy concentration of rocks... I hunt where others choose not to for whatever reasons...

All these abbreviations machines, what the "Hell" are they??? Need names and what model, not PI, BIHD, Di, and ABC... :ranting:

Cliff, it's kind of like other forms of computer speak. Things are abbreviated and I guess we get so used to them that though they seem normal for us they can be like a foreign language for the uninitiated. After a while you will get to know them. PI=Pulse Induction, BHID=White's Beach Hunter I.D., etc. And then there are other terms that can also describe the same ones I just gave you by name or model, etc., etc. There are several Pulse Induction detectors you will read about here like White's Surf PI, PI Pro, or Dual Field (DF). The Infinium and Sea Hunter are Garrett PI units. The Sand Shark is made by Tesoro.
The White's Beach Hunter I.D. may read as the BHID (original) or the BHID 300 (new one). Or, it could just read as Beach Hunter or Beach Hunter 300. Excal or Excal II refers to Minelab's Excalibur units. Excal 800 is an 8" coil, Excal 1000 is a 10" coil. The Sov or Sov GT refers to the Minelab Sovereign units. And there are many more. Don't worry, you'll get used to them. But for now, just ask and don't get frustrated. Not good for the blood pressure. --Jerry

Wow! Thanks for the reply.. I guess I have my work cutout for me on reseach of water detectors. I've been checking out the Tesoro Sand Shark like you said and may even go with that one for awhile, but also have my eyes on some others.. Thanks again for your reply.. Cliff

Don't worry my friend,,,Its like trying to learn how to read a map for the first time..... ( I went MD-ING ,and guess what I found with my Surfer II ? 3 wheaties, 1 C Dime ) Again..don't worry. Soon
all this mumbo jumbo will start to make sence, and who knows you might get to coin some of these fraises yourself.......NAH... HH. tor541

CS4pi. The pulse is nice and light, cheap if you don't water hunt. Not the deepest/most sensitive but 2" squarish flat bits of copper shrapnel at well over a foot running just below maximum and just below an audible threshold gives me the belief that if I go over largish gold I'll get it at those settings. I find if I max it out (guess it goes down to about 18us but I dunno for certain) I spend too much time checking signals as the threshold's up and down whatever settings are used even held stationary at waist height.

Use a pulse four/five times a week and your ears seem to do your discriminating. Unfortunately, this learned skill is not retained. If you dump it in the closet for even just a week you'll be back to educated guesstimation :(

Wouldn't go back to a Sov if you paid me but PI's ain't for everyone.

I LOVE MY PULSE !!!

The GT has its place on the beach... the PI is for the water or wet sand... right now though the GT has my attention :)

Yes, it is a blinding machine. Lots of places it will be more productive than the pulse. I just avoid those places now. Besides, everyone else has been over them anyway. 100 decent finds divided by 20 = 5 each. 10 decent finds divided by none is more productive
