what machine for black sand?

Please help me. I live in Southern California in the LA area. I've been a beach TH-er for 18 years. I use a surfmaster pi and I find a lot of gold now. I am hearing that minelab has a machine that will see through the black sand on my beaches. Is that true?
Secondly, I love my PI, but I would like to add two more machines. One that would see through the black sand, and one that could hear gold that was deep, on the days we don't have a lot of black sand.
I would love to hear your comments, as I am in awe of your knowledge. thank you, Julie

Julie,
It sounds to me like there's not much more you need to do for getting through the black sands.
Your current PI machine will see through the black sands far more effectively than current VLF units, including Minelab's Excalibur. I know as I have done the tests here in Australia. We chose an area of beach that has a heavy layer of black "doughy-like" sand that lies about 8 inches below the normal white sand. This is where the goodies lie as this area prevents targets from getting too much deeper. The VLF unit was unable to locate the target which was about 3 inches into the black sand, I believe that the electromagnetic field is forced into a more sideways pattern which is not what you want.
Anyhow, our White's PI had no problems in signalling the presence of the target. Our beaches are all nice and white on top, but often there is the black sand layer underneath. It's not visible from the top. I can hunt confidently knowing that my PI unit will tell me when something's there.
You mention that you are finding gold....sounds to me like you are doing something right !
Regards
TS.

You should check into the Minelab SD 2200D or GP extreme(Have a dealer demo them at your favorite Beach in the wet sand).
