Should I get a surfmaster II ? ( I hear whites doen't have parts for them anymore) and pinpointing maybe difficult
Should I get a Beachhunter ID ? (I've heard good and bad about them)
Should I get a PI Pro ?
Should I get somethiing else?

I have an old Whites PI 1000 I never liked the beeps or tone going over an object seemed difficult to pinpoint. Are the new PI's easier to use and pinpoint?

Now I'm looking for used and on a budget.....any suggestions

Find a used Tiger Shark. It will make you a happy person.

I really like the BHID 300 been using it about 2 weeks and it works great. Have a stingray which is like the tigershark and it works good aswell. I find the addition of the lights a nice added touch even in all metal.

MR BILL I think can take care of any things whites does not have..plus I'm sure guys like Bob at Whites repair center in VA can fix the Surf II. If the price is right get it...I have used a Beach Hunter id and the 300 for years!! I have also tried others...will use nothing else!! the beach hunter 300 is super deep kills gold works great in salt or fresh water.

Don't think you want a PI for fresh water. You need a machine that discriminates. You won't have it set high but at least you won't be digging a hundred bobby pins and rusty nails. I second the Tiger Shark thing for freshwater. After that I'd look at a CZ-21. And...when I want deep and I'll dig it all, I use the White's Dual Field. I admit...my bias is not to use an Excalibur. They are a great machine, but their current reliability and/or repair service after the fact have left a lot standing in the lurch. I'll also admit that once I think those two problems are resolved their will be an Excalibur in my stable. jim

i have a excalibur 2 1000 its been a great machine for me and ive not had any problems with mine..works great in salt water and these local beaches i have here around columbus..
check out my face book page and look at my finds...

Thanks for all of the input. What is a fair price for a used Tiger Shark? Have they made the same model for years or have they done improvements over the years to the same model? If you buy them used is the warrenty transferable?
