What size and type is the little screw

They have been getting that messed up for years now. Not sure why they can't get it right.
We have (5) 705's in our family and a close friend with one and only one of them was shipped with a screw and they sent a wood screw. One look at that tells you that it's a fine thread screw and insetting a wood screw would immediately damage the threads needed for the correct screw. My guess that's what happened to you.
I contacted Minelab and they sent me screws for all of them but I'll be honest and say that none of us ever used them. When we first received our detectors we weren't sure if we really needed the screw but wanted to make sure that we had them just in case we found out that the control box started slipping out of the handle. I don't believe that it's ever been problem for any of us. I would get the screw from Minelab just in case but the correct screw my no longer work if you inserted the wring screw in the beginning.

I've had the Xterra for over 8 years now and I have never put that screw in. The screw I got with the MDer is a wood type screw and I do not know if it's the right one or wrong one.

I thought and think that it was meant to be a self starting screw. If that is incorrect I'm not sure it would make any real difference.
