what size coil for freshwater?

Thinking about getting a tiger shark to fulfill my water hunting needs and am wondering what size coil to go with the 8 or 10 inch? I would be hunting freshwater exclusively. Thanks all and HH.

It depends on how trashy the area is ,if it not very trashy I would go with the 10 inch for better ground coverage.

I'm right there with pulltaber. I'm fortunate enough to have an older Sand Shark with a connector so that I can swap coils. That said, I have found very few places (fresh or salt for that matter) that I would really want to be using the 8 inch coil. The 10.5 inch is on it nearly all the time. When not using the Shark, I am mostly hunting with a big coil on the other detectors I use at the beach and in the water. When hunting with some discrimination, like you probably will with the Tiger Shark, a smaller coil helps unmask targets a little better than a big one when you get a good target very near iron that is discriminated out.

If you go with the big coil and do hit trashy areas, you may just need to hunt in all metal, dig it all and slowly work the area until you get much of the trash out and can use the big coil to best effect.

Another consideration; if you have lots of rocks and not sand, silt or clay bottoms, then the small coil might help work around and through the rocks better.

Answer is that it really depends on conditions. The 8 inch will provide you more flexibility with respect to all conditions, however, I hunt nearly all the time with a big coil.
Cheers,
tvr

For freshwater i really would go with the 8".More trash in fresh than salt. The tiger loves that 8"coil.I just ordered a sandshark with the big coil but i hunt salt. Not as much trash.Tvr hunts salt too.I think i am going to hip mount mine,so i can work the stick like crazy!
