What the heck am I doing wrong?

I've had my Etrac for several months now and decided to try to experiment with the edit screen. Page 44 of the manual states "If you enter the Edit Screen from the Pattern/Digital Screen, the Edit Screen will display the same Discrimination Pattern you were using in those screens." I was using the standard Minelab "Coins" pattern which came up on the edit screen. Great, so far so good. Just for the sake of the experiment I edited the Minelab "Coins" pattern to look like Bill_S' "Trashy Park" pattern. Looks great. Again so far so good. Now comes the part I'm having trouble with--saving the new pattern. I follow the instructions on page 43 of the manual "To Save a Discrimination Pattern:"--hit the menu button, scroll to discrimination, scroll down to save, use the navigation buttons to enter the save sub-menu, scroll down to an empty slot and guess what -- my new pattern isn't there. All of the patterns are empty. I don't get it! What am I doing wrong?

try this edit the pattern then press the detect button, you will be asked to save to smartfind arrow right for yes,
select menu ,select save then select the pattern you want to overwrite.

if all are blank you don't have any saved.

Try this. Do what you were doing then when you go to save. Use the down arrow to scroll to the slot you want to save the pattern in and then hit the right arrow. The pattern should now show up.

That's correct. You have to hit the detect button to actually load it into the smart screen. Then you can go into the menu and find a blank spot and save it by hitting the right arrow button
