what were the USA compaines thinking??????

It really is a matter of personal preference. Take our good friends the dig-N-beeper's, they're perfectly happy without and target ID. Then you have people like me that demand as much target ID as I can get. You have those who prefer a detector that will go deep right out of the box but have some limitations and then you have those who don't mind spending a little time to learn to tweak a detector to get that great performance.

Take my good old White's DFX. I'll be the first to admit the default programs are pretty much crap when it comes to depth, but, you take some time to learn the detector and it is still one of the best machines on the market. Not for everyone for sure. The V3i is typical of the DFX. No it isn't the greatest out of the box when it comes to depth but a little tweaking and it becomes a whole new machine. Again, not for everyone. I love my Deus, my CTX and my E-Trac. The CTX and E-Trac are fantastic out of the box on that deep silver but lack on the gold. The Deus is a killer gold machine and has the depth but takes a little getting familiar with to full appreciate the ability. The V3i, like the DFX, is a rock solid performer but takes some tweaking to get the depth.

So really it depends on the type of hunter you are and how you approach the hobby.

Well said.

Just to many variables out in the field for any one machine at present to be able to conquer/excel at them all . It may be the perfect machine for the detectorist using it with his or her style of detecting and the sites they hunt however .....

Yes Ray In a way I envy those relic hunters if that's all they hunt. Makes finding that one machine possible. I'm mainly a coinshooter in parks and schools and a tot lot hunter for the gold. Maybe a bit of relic hunting but not much. I had been using the E-Trac when hunting deep coins in the park and the AT Pro for the tot lot gold and other stuff. The Deus has come as close to replacing both I've ever used. The more I use it the more I see the ability of the CTX in it and it is far better than my AT Pro for tot lot gold. Now I never thought I'd find a replacement for my AT Pro.

I'm still hanging onto my AT Pro because it's waterproof and I'd like to get into the rivers around here. I hang on to my V3i just because it's so flexible and I don't believe I have mastered all it has to offer yet...plus it's the only three frequency machine I have and it has such a nice display. That said. Would probably sell both the AT Pro and the V3i to pick up a CTX for use in the water, beach and for silver on land. That leaves the Deus and my Fisher CZ3. I'll probably let the CZ go as I don't use it much. A great machine...I'd just rather use the Deus.
Won't sell that one..I think when I finally get it figured out it it will be my main machine on land for years to come....

Will say though...the only silver I have dug this year has been found with the AT Pro...go figure.

The Deus has been the relic champ....but I don't hunt relics.......I'm a coin and jewelry hunter.

Cecil

I think I would keep my AT Pro in lieu of the Excaliber. Costs about the same as the CTX...mostly because it's dive rated which I don't do. I'd
have a hard time spending that kind of money on a machine that has no way of doing any sort of target ID besides a simple discrimination threshold.

OK, now don't get me started....

I'm American and have to agree with a lot of what has been posted in this thread. It seems that American companies have drifted from caring what the consumer wants in some environments. It's savage greed that drives business decisions today. Getting return on investment using inferior components to make a bigger profit is the mantra of today.

Deus sounds like they have tapped into a winning formula while also being able to maximize their profits with a quality product. Will American manufacturing wake up to real consumer demands? IDK.

I'm sorry if I seem to be bashing my own country, but I hate what I've seen happening in the US. Greed, arrogance and inferior product has placed us in a lower position than we deserve. I could say more, but I won't. Don't get me started.

Enough of my ranting... now back to your regular programming.

P.S. I love my country, but hate the greed and perverted thinking that have taken over.

Dennis

It is not greed that does this. Greed is the driving force to innovation. It is when you have customers that keep buying the same crap new product over and over that is just a slight rehash with a different name. American people are the ones to blame not the companies.

From a french PoV , Xp Deus is the best MD we could have, the swiss-knife of detection as I like to decribe it, but I'm not worried about US companies, I really think that Minelab is close to understand what users really need (everything is already programmable in this MD, but the weight is too heavy) ; White's with the XLT and then the DFX and the actual V3i is a pioneer in this numeric world of metal detecting, and if someday they will decide to bring wireless and weightless to their new MD, it's gonna be amazing (almost if they keep the simultaneous frequencies)... just a litlle advance taken by the french company, but future will be great for our hobby, I haven't any doubt on it!
keep enjoy MD!
See ya.

It is not only corporate greed but American greed as well.

We find it so easy to lay all the blame at the feet of those corporations making all that $$$ while we, average Joe American, starve. Fact is it has been the greed of Americans, of course we justify it by saying we're just wanting what we need to live, that drives corporate business to outsource. Then we whine like babies when they do. We for some insane reason think we should get $15 an hour to put pickles on a hamburger. Largely driven by our immigrant population we now see single parents trying to pay rent, buy a car and raise 3 kids while working at Burger King. WTF? Those are jobs meant for first time employees getting started in the job market while still living at home. Those minimum wage jobs were never meant to be living jobs. When businesses are forced to pay $15 an hour to a hamburger flipper they are going to outsource so they can stay in business.

I think Alain and his team have significantly raised the bar with the Deus, and many companies now I would bet are trying to replicate one or more components found on the Deus to make their newest product more attractive to die-hard detectorists. The next 5 years are going to be very interesting with the competition's answer to the Deus!!! ON top of that, the next software update could make the Deus even more sensitive and perform better on deeper targets - rather than having to design an entirely new circuit, processors, hardware, etc. We could really be just one update away from outperforming EVERYTHING out there...I wait with bated breath for v3.3 or or v4.0 :bouncy:

Anyone that makes detector can try and copy the Deus but can it preform like the Deus can it be upgraded and will those updates really make a change? And by the time they do that where will they be playing catch-up on the old deus or what the future of the deus will offer...They need to out think the french and I don't think that can be done with how amercan compaines run their busenesses

Agreed! The Deus is in a class all its own. Once you've swung a Deus it is hard to want to swing anything else. I haven't pulled my E-Trac or AT Pro out of the closet for a while now. My arm hurts just thinking about using my E-Trac LOL.

Version 2.0 is what I started with, and then not quite a year ago they came out with v3.2 and the 11" coil at nearly the same time. I was more than pleased in the trash using v2.0 and the 11 x 13 coil - found silver and wheats on the first several hunts!!! Then I went with the newer 11" coil and loaded 3.2....everything was crisper, signals were clearer, and I could hit coins about one inch deeper max on average. I dug a lot of deep iron the first few hunts but was also finding coins next to golf-ball sized nuts and bolts at the famous roller coaster site.

I cant imagine if a software upgrade could enhance it even further, to where 12-inch coins could be detected through nails and such, as for me I'm hitting coins at 8-9" max, and some larger targets around 10-11". I know with more hours and practice on the Deus will net deeper targets, but this is where I'm at now and am happy with the sorting capabilities at depth! But if it couldme expanded upon and iimproved...I'm a lifelong customer!

This company seems to want to always take the next step..I think they charge so much for the machine so they can afford to upgrade it at no cost but at some point I think we may have to pay but it would be worth it

A remarkably large number of people think something like a Garrett AT Pro offers far more value for a far lower price. I have the greatest respect for XP and what they have achieved with the Deus, but I believe it is a mistake to count the U.S. manufacturers as down and out.

The USA always bounces back but how long will that take..we demand more now more then ever..our areas to hunt ar shrinking or being built on so some of us don't have a lot of time....

XP has done us all a favor by showing what can be done by a company willing to try. I have advocated lighter more compact detectors for a long time. But whenever the US companies and Minelab get asked about it, the answer has always been "detectors are a niche market and do not have the economy of scale of cell phones". Looks like XP blew that excuse out of the water.

The reality right now is we have a huge number of very good detectors to choose from. I do not see anything holding anyone back. Personally I do not really care that much what the manufacturers do and sure am not holding my breath waiting for any new latest and greatest machines. They are just detectors, not magic, and nothing that comes out tomorrow will change anything much. The only thing limiting your ability to go detecting is making the time to go do it. You have a great detector so get out and go detecting.

I don't think the V3 is even close to the deus...I had one I would pay the money for the deus coil if really needed like maybe a small coil and more then one freq at a time and this machine would be even more killer

Southwind said:
White's and the V3i are right there. They may not be completely wireless, yet, but there is a price to pay. That price would be $500 for a different coil on the Deus compared to $150 on the V3i.

deus coils can be bought for considerably less than MAP

...AND then you have two detectors, not just another coil for your v3i

v3i wireless hf's weigh about as much as an entire deus, lol
