WHATCHA GOT THERE?????

To your way of thinking, what's your best or most unusual find you ever made? (Relics or Coins) Also-numbers of coins? Other than all the spiritual emblems we've found--for me, in relics it was a Confrederate States "CS" buckle out of Tenn. (I'll never forget that hunt) For coins, I've never found any of the REAL OLD coins that you guys back east have. That's why I "drool" everytime I see your posts & pics-HA.-----In the last 4 years- we've found 3 silver dollars (1879S Morgan, 1886P Morgan, & 1928S Peace.-----In the last 6 years-we've found 21 silver halves-(Barbers, Walkers, Franklins & 90% Kennedys)-4 Barbers, 10 Walkers, 5 Franklins & two 90% Kennedys. (dates 1897 thru 1964)-----79 silver quarters-(Barbers, Standing Libertys & Washingtons)-14 Barbers, 19 Standing Libertys (9 readable dates & 10 non-readable dates), 46 silver Wash.- (dates 1893 thru 1964).-----Dimes--2 Seated Liberty (1887P & 1887S), 37 Barber dimes (1897 thru 1916).----Many, many Mercs & Rosies---many old coppers (oldest being 1880)-----The oldest coin I ever found was a 1874 Shield nickel (under a mesquite bush at an old outlaw hangout). I'm finding more nowadays than I did back in the 1970's with the old Compass & Whites. It must be the newer detectors--cause I ain't that good!! HA I know a lot of you guys can beat the sox off of all this stuff--I just think it's fun to share-----WHATCHA GOT THERE????? Later my friends, Del

Del, the most unusual thing I found was this silver Masonic locket...

I figure maybe it was origionally attached to a silver pocket watch fob chain.
Unless there are Lodge members out there who might know...

1872 in pretty good shape, has full sharp liberty. Maybe a $250+ coin! I found it my second year of detecting and when I looked it up in the Red Book I was shocked.

OK, I'll play...

Maybe not the best thing I've ever found, but just a few days ago I found a key date 1925 Penny (mintage of 117,000) with the scarce "broken N" variety. This is second only to the 1930 Penny in rarity. Too bad it's bent and badly corroded (The other side is totally unrecognisable). At least the side with the date is pretty good. Even if it has little numismatic value, I think it's a neat find!

I forgot to mention this one-----I found a 1914-D Wheatback in an old park in AZ. Probably about a V.F. grade (I think the book lists them around $500). When I looked at that coin-at the time I thought there "different" looking about it. When I got back home to NE-I took it in to a friend of mine that runs a coin shop to show him my "great find". He took one look at it and said--"Well Del, I hate to burst your bubble, but you got a counterfeit here". I immediately told him he had just ruined my day. ha They had counterfeited it off of an 1944-D but they did a pretty good job of it. Now how did that thing end up in an old park at 5" deep??? Del
