to scoop some dadgum gold!! My gold drought continues in spite of all my efforts. I've walked, scooped and dunked myself all in the quest, but still I dwell in the Land of Nada, at least as far as gold goes.
I'll start with a hunt on Monday. I arrived at the lake by 7:00 am and was in the water at 7:15, on the quest!! The wind was blowing out of the south at about 30mph and was kicking up some serious wave action. I got knocked off my pins more than once, but I kept at it until noon. The AT Gold/5 x8 coil/Grey Ghost Amphian headphones got me a fair amount of targets but retrieval was some real exercise. Bob awhile, scoop awhile!! I'm also really enjoying having my Propinter waterproffed. When hunting the shallow water, up to just below my waist, I don't even need a scoop for the recent drops, I can bend or squat after I hit a target and find it with the Propointer and pick it up with my hand. Much easier...except for the wave business!!
Anyway, here's the take for the day!!

The big honkin' ring is of unknown metal, probably stainless with black enamel. Here's a closeup!!

So, I didn't make it back out till Thursday as things just kept getting in the way. This day saw much calmer water and I was one happy camper about that!! I was able to cruise right along and didn't suffer such a beating as before. I used the same rig this time and the AT Gold is proving to be an excellent fresh water hunter, no doubt!! Here's the take for the day!!

And of course, any rings that fit BCM, also known as The One Who Must Be Listened To, go directly on her hand. The one with the stone was a perfect fit and she was able to show it off to the ladies at work today.

. Nice silver by the way!

I've sure learned a lot in the past few years reading the forums and watching the youtube vids. You gotta think on a big expanse of swimming area or sportsfield theres at least 6 gold items in there waiting to be found, on a beach, not all are within the detectors capabilities, but they are there none the less, and if a guy gets there at the right time, and gets the coil over it, its YOURS! Our sand moves a lot up here, I walk over a place where I found a gold ring last year that is now under 6' of sand, it was only blown out for @3days last October, so it would still be there had I not been in the right place at the right time. Inland beaches are different of course, but from the looks of the targets you recover, a fellow would think theres gotta be a pony in there somewhere! Go get it BigCat!
I agree with you about this being the most physically demanding aspect of our sport, gold hunting in the water that is. I was thinking about this today, as I was deep in the water at sun-up... and doing a little math...theres @300 million Americans, maybe 10% go swimming in lakes and rivers and the ocean..30 million...maybe 10% of those wear gold, 3million, maybe .001% have lost it..? In all the bodies of water around this Country? In depths varying from towel line to several hundred feet of H2O?...On a beach with 10,000 people, how many have lost gold today? Can a guy get out there and find it in such a large area? Is it a tiny 2 gr 10k? or a 14k heavy chain?
