whats the cost to convert older golden to the newer tones?

to just shop for one. I didn't like the original, and I like the newer one even less. A lot depends upon the ground mineral challenges you'll deal with, and most sites I hunt are quite bad. Then, there is the simple fact that the same things that can throw visual Target ID off can, and will, also throw off the audio Tone respond off, often dropping it to a lower range tone (but on occasions higher).
Personally, I have used visual TID and audio Tone ID since they were first introduced to the market, and with Tesoro that means going back to the old Two-Tone Royal Sabre's and others. For me, and the types of sites I hunt and ground mineral conditions I deal with, I know I don't care to own another Golden

If you already have a Golden and you want to try the new tones the cost of shipping it to Tesoro and the $25 for the upgrade seems like an inexpensive upgrade.
I like my Golden uMax just fine. I hunt in notch 90% of the time so I don't think the set of tones make a difference to me. Since the machine will sound on coins and things in the nickle range if it beeps I dig. To me that is the reason to have a Golden. If I wanted to dig all the items in the notched out range then a Compadre would do just as much good. I don't have any problems with bad ground here in Mississippi so the problems Monte mentioned don't apply here. In fact even though I have a Cibolo and a Vaquero too I don't see any difference in depth between those two machines. The Vaquero does make using alternative coils easier and more efficient but when all things are equal I think those two machines are pretty much equal. Oh, on my Golden I think the depth is equal to or maybe slightly better than a Silver's.

Well what got me hooked on tesoro was the silver for $230.00 at the time i was impressed found stuff the whites m-6 i had didn't find then i got a golden loved it but like everybody else complained about it was shallow and also tried a 12 x 10 coil on it and that threw it all out of whack so i learned the 8" round donut worked better for me actually seemed it gained a little in depth but after watching 53silvers vid this is now a tot lot killer and parks!

Check the website click on "detectors" and then click on the Golden Umax. $50.00 to change an older Golden to the new tones.
