BD, I don't think that there is any problem at all with the 3D.It will do well what it was designed to do..I have had 2 of them and liked them... I would opt for the CZ-5 overall but I like the 3D also.. I think that a lot of people used too much sensitivity, cranking it up like the other CZ's, but that won't work...4-5 is close to maximum. Great nickel machine like the 5...Give it another try...Thanks Richard

except that maybe I hate digging beavertails that signal as nickel. Other than that, I love mine. I hunt coins, not relics but I have dug a few CW buttons that signalled as a zinc penny. I believe that only the 3D would have pushed them up into a range where I would have dug them. If you stick to old sites with it, you'll like it. Take it to newer parks and you won't like it. Really as simple as that.

Reg mode is locked in saltmode which causes a loss of depth and sensitivty to gold jewelty.
Hit a area used long ago and still being used try the enhanced mode and you will dig a bunch of trash. Use the regular mode and as above.
Those used to previous CZ's will find targets hit in different zones.
I really feel in an an ancient area the enhanced mode might get you an extra goodie, but still the dig more to find more mentality...

be prepared to dig some trash unless you run it in salt mode. Its a good machine, I just prefer the CZ5 or CZ70.
My 3D hits nickles very good in enhanced mode, better than the salt mode, and a little better than a CZ5 I tried. As far as the beaver tails, I figured out a way to pass them by...they will usually give a depth reading of 4" or better, even though they are close to the surface. So, I run my uniprobe PP'er over the ground surface, and when it sounds off loud after a 4" depth reading, I know it's a beaver tail. I can also hunt modern trash w/the 3D and dig very little trash if I flip the switch and check good sounding targets in both modes. After awhile w/the CZ you will know trash targets by how they register in both modes. Also, my salt mode would hit most all targets that the enhanced or a CZ5 would hit, especially if the sens is turned up a bit. 4 or so is the highest I have ever been able to run the enhanced mode in, but the salt mode can be cranked up much higher.

I have noticed the depth thing with the beavertails. They always indicate much deeper than they are. They are usually within an inch of the surface. I will have to start using my uniprobe like you said for them. Thanks for the tip.

Well, I've been coin hunting with pretty much just the 3D for the last year and a half....and I've found some good old coins with it. But I've decided to go mostly jewelry hunting for awhile, and I need something w/more segments and notching capability, so I ordered an ACE 250....hearing all kinds of rave reviews on it....I'm also going into some heavy trash areas, and the little coil on the ACE will do well there from everything I've been told...mine won't be here for a day or so...so the final say on how it runs in my local is yet to come. 
I also have an Advantage, which hunts high coins here as well or better than anything...it's as deep or deeper than the CZ's here, and w/the stock coil is good in trash and iron...finds coins colocated w/trash better than any machine I've used w/a 7-8" coil. Although, I must say the C$ did well in that regard also, but I had other problems w/it that just annoyed me. Anyway, time for a change and for what I'm hunting now, I need some things the CZ's don't give me. And if I want to hunt high coins, the Advantage will do me well there...and many are saying the ACE is a great coin shooter too. I'll know soon enough. In the end, you just have to go with what works best for you in your area and what your hunting for. Alot of good fun detectors on the market, but I seldom swing more than on at a time. 
The 3D has been a fun machine to use and found enough goodies to pay for itself. I just feel like going after some gold since the price is going higher and higher...and it won't take too many rings to pay for an Ace 250. I don't like having too many machines around at the same time either...I can't decide which one to use. An Ace and an Advantage should do me fine for awhile. The funny part is...my most expensive piece of detecting equiptment will be my Pocket Uniprobe. 
Anyway, the 3D is fun to use and you can get real good with it in a short time...even in modern trash..having two modes in trash will decrease digging trash if you use them....and it does give good target audio info after a short time using it, if you listen. While I understand why many who tried it in modern trash just using the enhanced mode quickly disliked it, if you use both modes in the trash, you will do better than if you just had a CZ5...it really doesn't take long to figure that out. Just check each target in each mode and dig everything for a few hours and you will see what I mean...the combo ID's you get from both modes along w/the audio info will start telling you what the target is very quickly. You'll have fun w/that 3D...me....I'm hunting for gold rings for awhile.

I did get a SunRay probe for it, and plan to dismount the Ace from the shaft to use as a "stand-alone" probe with my other detectors when not using the Ace for hunting. I think having the small coil will really help on the Ace as well.

I've got four units in my arsenal at this time. I think I would be hard pressed to have a better four than I have right now. They all have their strengths, and weaknesses, but all are excellent performers, and work the best for me, in my conditions.

OT...they must be selling a ton of those Aces, it seems. By the looks of the finds, they seem to be hitting coins very well also. But the segment setup, notching ability, and small coil with great separation and quick target response is tailor made for what I want to do. I can't believe I get all that for $200. That's a good idea to use it as a PP'er also. Strengths and weakness is right. After trying out all the high end detectors, I sure wish I could put what I like about them all in one...but it's fun...you can find good stuff with any of them. I was using a cheap used Garrett when I started trying out all the new high end detectors several years back, and here I am going back to one. At least it's not green. I have alot of varying ground conditions here and the CZ's were one of a few that handled everything w/consistancy. The Advantage is another...from what I've gathered from others the Ace should do OK also. We'll see soon enough. Better stop talking about non Fisher detectors here before we are arrested by the forum police.

I've had my CZ3 for about a year and generally like it, but I have twice now run it to spots where I was getting so many false readings that I just shut it off and went home for my old White's Quantum. I've tried turning the sensitivity all the way down and still the machine goes crazy.I've never used the enhanced mode and have done well. In and around salt it has been great. Any suggestions?
