What's up with the 3 kHz coil?

Hi,

Has anyone noted any difference in performance with the 3 kHz coils? Seems like everyone was waiting to get one, but now that they are out nobody is saying much.

I've been using my X-Terra 70 pretty much full time with the 18.75 kHz concentric coil and am happy with it. The main coil I'd like to get right now is a small one. I suppose I'll get around to trying the 3 kHz coil out sometime but I'm curious if anybody does have some comments on it.

I still don't have mine yet. I bought from a local dealer and Minelab was backordered at the time for the 3kHz. It's been a month and I still don't have the coil. Haven't received the $50 savings bond either.. Either the dealer toasted me or Minelab is really slacking.

The coils were back ordered, but the ones I had coming in was shipped to me almost 2 weeks ago so your dealer should have got his too. Would be a good idea to call your dealer and ask him if he got it in yet, he may just have it and didn't call you yet.

Steve,

I just bought one from another THer and should receive it on Saturday. I won't be able to try it out for two weeks though as I just had my left shoulder operated on yesterday. I now have all three coils and couldn't be happier. I really like this machine and enjoy using it so far. I will post something when I get a chance to use it.

Steve and the rest of you folks, I have had my new X70 for about two weeks, and I bought all three coils, sad to say that I have only played with it for about 5 mins. I plan on testing real good, maybe next week if it ever stops raining, I will do my best to post on the 3 khz coil .
H.H. to all !!

The 3kHz coils were back ordered, but only for a short while. They have been in stock for a couple of weeks now. I have had a supply of them and the 18.75kHz concentric, as well as the 18.75kHz DD for the past two weeks. The 3kHz, to answer your question, is a very good coil, it will smooth out the mineralization, while punching deep for the goodies. I noticed the machine seemed to operate smoother, with a closer ground bakance when the 3kHz coil was attached.

I have almost as much time with the 3k coil as with the 7.5..(about 10-12 hours with each one).
I got them both in a package deal. The 3 k seems to run smoother 'as Chuck says'...I just have not found any deep stuff with either....But I am sure it has more to do with the pounded ground I have been searching than anything else.I am sure the XT-70 coild pick up a deep one with any of the three coils..
Steve.............You have been wondering about the 3k coil,as I have been wondering what finds are being made with the 18k or the DD......
I am not sure if I am going to buy the 9 inch 18k coil or not....If they come out with a 5",a 6" or a 7" 18k ..I will be more likely to bite.I just dont use my XT as much as I should,,,,,,,,,actually preferring to use 2 of my other machines that run at 14k,and 18k to make sure I dont miss much gold jewelry when I am hunting.....LOL......I guess I am never satisfied....LOL
I know when (or if) Minelab comes out with a small coil....I will bite.....I dont think I need a small one in 3 k...But either 7.5, or 18 k ( for jewelry hunting) would be nice.
Sorry I got a little off the subject Steve...Just not much to say right now............H.H.

I haven't used the 3khz coil much. I seems to me that the 7.5khz works better for modern coins in my soil. I'm still trying to convince myself that I the 3khz better than the 7.5 khz for silver.
