WHATZIT Very Heavy Metal?

Misterminelab

New member
Hello I am new to this forum,I have visited several times & am excited to be here,I have a very interesting
piece of metal,A friend of mine found this in a field in ohio in 1970,it weighs 10.29 ounces,it is 2 &1/8 by 1 & 1/2
inches,it sounds really good on my excalibur,at first I thought it was a meteorite because of the weight, does not stick
to a magnet and it is very very hard?please help us figure this out, thank you.

looks like a meteorite fragment. Heavy Much?

Edit sry didnt read entire post I see the weight now.

Yes looks like meteorite to me. Some meteorites do not attract a magnet.

That is an ore, witch one I dont know .
Two that have similar structure are chrome ore and maganese ore but I dont think it is either of those Although maganese is non magnetic.

Any ideas on where we could take it,or how to test for content,he would like to know the value?
thanks for the replies,HH

I doubt its worth anything unless you had more of it.
Most large scrap yards have xrf analyzres, like the ones in link, tell them you have a ton or so of it and you want to know what it is and what its worth.

Found a similar piece at an old Gold Mine in NV.

Might be chromium ore or even lead...

will it ring with a hammer blow?

Wierd in a field by itself...

I'll send you and offer...

Perform this hardness test and please let us know the results:

Yes it does ring with a hit from hammer, does not seem to mark stone though,as it is very hard?

If you live near a college or University, they should have a geology department, they could tell you what it is pretty quickly.
