Wheaties by the dozen!

Well-known member
WOW, I none the less am going to post about hunting. I hit one of my favorite spots this morning and ended up digging an even dozen wheats, a silver ring with a dove and turquoise stone mount, a 35 Buffalo and a bit of clad. It has been quite a while since I have dug that many wheats in one outing. I was going to stay a bit longer and get my silver coin, but had a errand to run. 10 to 12 wheats to 1 silver coin is about my ratio...and no, I don't count the silver ring in my ratio. If the detecting gods are smiling, my first coin tomorrow will a be silver.:bouncy: HH jim tn

Wow, Jim, sounds good. I have tomorrow to try to get out and do some soybean field hunting. I have owned my LTD for over a week and have 15 minutes in a soybean field in total darkness to my credit.
I just got sick of not being able to hunt, so I went at 8 pm in central Indiana. Got a good signal, dug a cool token, and called it quits.

HH, Don

- - and didn't find even one silver coin. I reckon the place had been cherry picked long before I ever came along.

But it sure beats a boot in the ass, and you did good on the ring - so all is well with the Gods, after all..

getting to hunt every day whether I find goodies or not in itself is the detecting gods smiling upon me. Still, though, wouldn't mine seeing a silver coin tomorrow...and a big one would be nice. HH jim tn

I missed getting afield yesterday  do to some roof problems, but did get out today just to see if my next coin was going to be silver....it wasn't! My first 9 coins were 4 wheats, 4 pre 82 Memorials and a clad dime. The 10th coin, a nickel reading, turned out to be a 43D war nickel. I counted it as a silver coin recovery. I then dug 4 or 5 more pre 82 Memorials when I got a solid, but bigger sounding penny reading, which turned out to be 1943 Australia large penny. That is the second one of those I have found on this site and they are kind of neat with the kangaroo on the reverse side. Shortly after that I received a very bouncy vdi reading with a high tone tic and a mix of mid tones. As I occasionally got a id flash of 74-77, I decided to dig. In the clod was a Memorial cent, a folded over tab tail, a 2" piece of wire and a 58 Rosie. That, with the war nickel, about put me back in line with what for me is about my normal silver to wheats ratio. 10 or so wheats to 1 silver. I did also dig a 3" length of silver chain just before I quit. The clasp was still attached and marked 925. All in all, a fun day. For those that may be interested, I was swinging the small elliptical coil and in de, 95 sen. 0 disc. and 3h tones.

j.t. No, I have not yet gone for the LTD. I am still kind of setting on the fence, for no apparent and strong reasons. I am in hopes they will have more as I suspect I will at some point feel a LTD will be necessary. HH everyone, jim tn

i still have my original 75 too!..i'm not havin' a lot of e.m.i issues here in new england,so to take a big "money" hit on the 75 doesn't seem to make much sense for me!..a 10 to 1 silver ratio is damn good jim!..i would be pleased with that!...

j.t. I'm kind of leaning towards getting a LTD, but still enjoying my F 75 and just am not in any big hurry. Hopefully it, or something like it, will be available down the road. I will, though, keep my F 75. I don't really keep accurate counts of my wheats to silver ratios as I don't keep up with my wheatie numbers. I do, however, with silver. Wheats and silver finds for me do seem to go in spurts. I do usually recover some number of wheats each hunt, but not silver. Then, like yesterday and today, 1, 2, or 3 silvers will crop up. This morning I dug 1 wheatie and 3 silver dimes. The past two days help make up for the lack of silver for almost a week. Take care and HH jim tn

this is roughly the way it is for me also!..i get excited when "poppin'" wheats at any site because i can smell silver too!..usually 10 or more wheaties to silver does it for me on average!..i'm gettin' down around 10 inches or so on coins,so my feeling is the ltd would hear the same stuff,it would just be a "louder" hit in all probability..i think i'll stick with the 75,as i really am pleased with it's performance in my ground!..
