I'll share mine with you, and others, although I am sure many have heard them before ... and often.

Really enjoying my new Omega..............with the stock 10" Eliptical concentric coil. Seems to work very well.
I got my first Omega in March of 2010 as a 3-coil package. I mainly was interested in the 10" elliptical Concentric coil (5½x9¾) and the sub 5" Double-D. I had no interest in the big over 11" length Double-D for the types of hunting I generally do. Besides, I didn't like the feel on the Omega or the in-the-field performance, so I dumped it. The stock elliptical Concentric and little DD coils worked fine and I enjoy using them.

But now I have the new white solid 10" DD coil...as well.
I presume you are referring to the 5"X10" elliptical Double-D as I can't think of a round 10" DD coil for it. I like that coil, basically, and prefer it to the 11" BiAxial (Double-D) coil, but only if I really wanted to use a Double-D instead of a Concentric .... and that I seldom want to do, if I have the option.

When should I use the 10 " DD coil?
With the 5X10 DD you would use it just the same as you would any other size and shape and internally designed search coils, and that is by doing this.: Determine if a search coil ...
1.. fits your needs based upon on the site area to be covered.
2.. fits your needs should you be hunting a trashy site, especially with dense and closely-spaced trash.
3.. is able to fit in and around brush or building rubble.
4.. if the coil can be worked closer to metal structures such as poles or fences.
5.. handles unwanted targets well (meaning it provides good Discrimination, especially of ferrous type junk).
6.. especially satisfies you with its fit, feel and performance such that YOU feel you can rely on it.

What benefits does it add to the Omega.
That's a personal call, and involves your decision on how well it provides coverage, depth of detection for the conditions, gives you good Discrimination results, and doesn't leave you wondering if you made the right choice or not. Personally, I like to have a few coils that I have used, learned, and trust. Once I have done that I know if there are any real 'benefits' for me and my types of hunting.

I'm told that some detectors just don't function well with a DD coil.......is this true for the Omega?
With the Omega, I found the sub-5" DD coil to work reasonably well in most sites, and the all-around performance of the 5" DD was reasonably good for the conditions I hunted.

I was told to use the DD coils in less trashy areas, because they pick up more rusted bottlecaps.
I would tell people that, compared with Concentric coils of similar size, a Double D coil will usually get a little less depth of detection than a similar size Concentric coil, and DD's do not Discriminate as well as similar-Size concentric coils. Double-D's have more difficulty with iron nails and other ferrous targets, and due to that they have a little jumpier, less accurate VDI read-out.
Ivan said:
Do the DD's have greater depth?
Bigger DD's might have greater depth than smaller DD's or smaller Concentrics, but for I have never found a DD coil to be superior to a similar-size Concentric coil. Besides, in the long run, '
depth' isn't going to do you much good if a site is very trashy or cluttered with rubble or debris, etc.

What techniques should I use to minimize the iron liking factor of the DD's?
Switch to Concentric coils. They, too, will have some challenge with bottle caps and other iron, but not like the DD designs.

Anyone have any experience , opinions, or tips on the new coil.............advice would be greatly appreciated.
That coil has been around now for a couple of years and works 'OK' for many people.
MY opinions are just that,
m-i-n-e, and I have been a long-time supporter of non-Double-D coils. They have, and continue to, work quite well for me in most conditions I hunt and trash I encounter, so I haven't felt the need to make a change to the 5X10 Double-D coil.
The best thing you could do is use it, a lot, and learn it and know what it can, and what it can't do for you. In the end, search coil selection should be more of a personal decision we each make for our personal detector or coil selection.
