When using the new GT meter

has anybody noticed that the targets aren't falling in the same range as were the older meters that were converted to a 180 scale ? Mine seems to be off by at least 3 - 5 digits. ie: When I set the meter to top out at 180 on silver, then nickels can come in anywhere between 144-150. Copper pennys will hit in the 176-180 range and complete tabs can hit all over the place from 140-175.
Of course the sounds are still dead on but this new meter has me scratching my head. I had a beaver tail hit way down at 128 today ... just knew I was about to dig a ring Right behind that I dug a real clean buffallo that registered 133 in and out of the ground ?
It's real touchy too when trying to tweak it to read 180 on silver .. just a knats azz one way or the other and it's gone to far. How about it folks, are you having similar results ? I would hate to have to open up a new meter, do you think I should send it in ?

I thought the new meters we calibrated to 170
not 180
maybe thats the problem?????????????

Well that may be so but they can be adjusted up into the 230 plus scale ? So ... I set it up at 180 and and am having the problems I mentioned in the previous post ?
The meter runs solid once set but it doesn't take much to get it out of sync. Overall the numbers just fall differently than any previous 180 scale meter I've used in the past .. including the Sunray meters.
Would like to hear from others that are using this new meter, maybe they are getting the same results ?

I dont have the new GT meter yet, but with the Elite and the GT if you run in freq 1 the nickle reading will read higher by 3 or 4 numbers, but the coins that read at 180 will still read as 180, so you have to run in freq 2 and the number will read the same as our XS series detectors. When checking a penny make sure it is before 1982 as it will read 179-180 like the dimes and quarters while the 1983 and newer will read 176-177 like most IH and some of the older wheaties from the teens.
That callibration reading in the book at 170 was a misprint and it should read 180 according to Minelab, so your setting of 180 is correct.
Just thought I would mention the freq 1 not reading correctly on nickles, but the tones sound the same.

I tried the running in freq 1 & 2 and freq 2 is a little better and more of what I'm use to seeing on a 180 scale thru the coin range
I think I solved the touchy adjustment yesterday afternoon too. I simply pulled the black adjustment knob off, set meter to 180 in freq 2, put a small dab off hot glue where the inside knob meets the outside pot shoulder. When it cooled down I put the knob back on and now I'm SURE it won't get bumped around so easy and the hot glue can be peeled off if needed.
