Where Are The Omega User Posts?????

What's going on with all the Omega owners? Are you not using them, or just not finding anything worth posting... I want one, but not getting enough feedback to pull the trigger. I think about getting it with the 11" coil but the jury is still out on coil selection ( too many choices). So come on and give me a reason to pull the trigger. I presently own an Ace 250 w/ 11" accelerator and standard coil, also have whites M6 with the 950 coil. The Omega looks to be deeper on coins... Give me some depth reports and tell me what coil you're using...... Thanks

Well, my Omega does share hunting time with another detector and I really do need to spend a little more time with it. The one I have now is my second one and does seem to have far less emi issues over all then my first and also appears to be a little deeper. When I got this one a few months back I got it with the two 10" coils. The concentric and 5x10dd. For field and beach work, I then got a NEL Hunter coil. In the dry sand with the NEL Hunter I have dug lead sinkers and a few coins a foot or so deep. I did have the 5"dd with my 1st Omega and it was a laser in trash. On many of my trashy hunting spots I need a little more depth then I got with the 5" dd and when the 5x10dd came out I purchased one....and it seldom came off. It picks through the trash very well and gets nice depth.

I had the Omega with the 10" dd on at one of our old pounded parks a couple of days ago. Besides a few nearer coin drops, I did manage one good hole. From around 5-6" I recovered 2 wheat cents, 1 Buffalo nickel, 2 Mercury dimes and a broken bottle neck with a cap on it. All targets were in a 4" diameter radius. Tid was all over the scale, but got enough info from the 5x10 dd to merit investigation. I didn't have my camera with me at the time, but that would have made a nice fresh from the ground shot.

I have always found the Omega to be a wonderful coin shooter and there are a wide array of coils available for it. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim, So in your opinion the 10" concentric and the Hunter are a better combo than the 11"?? DD

No, I didn't mean to imply that, anyway. All the coils, including the 11" dd, have their place for my personal types of hunting. I like the 10" concentric for spots that have light to moderate trash....and or, if the trash is pre-dominately bottle caps. The concentric does a great job of i d'ing them and further, is a light weight joy to swing and also works great around playground equipment. For heavy trash I went with the 5x10 dd. It has more depth then the 5" dd and being a little smaller then the 11" dd or the Hunter, which is also a dd, sees a few less targets in heavy trash. If I hadn't opted to try the NEL Hunter coil, I would then have the 11" dd. I get to the beach, fresh water and salt, a few times annually and I like the bigger coils for their coverage and added depth, be it sand or turf. The NEL coils also handle emi spots very well. Which, this second Omega doesn't seem to have severe emi issues, anyway. With my first Omega I had the 5", both 10" ones and the 11." And, used them all. Depending on the situation. When the 5x10" dd came out, it did end up seeing the most use. Keep in mind, these are my preferences for my type of hunting. HH jim tn

I haven't used the machines you're comparing the Omega to, but I can confirm (in my dirt) it does really well on deep silver. I can be almost as "deep" as the big boys, but where it shines is finding silver/copper that is colocated with iron & other junk. It is fast enough to alert you to goodies in amongst the junk.

Pepa, I have just had my omega about a month, so you can take my suggestions for what they are worth. I have used the 10 inch concentric coil, and the 8 inch coil. Both of these coils have their pros and cons. The 10 inch coil seems to be easier to slip the nose up closer to metal structures, better separation and covers a little more are than the 8 inch coil. neither coil is real hot off the edges. The 8 inch is easier to pinpoint (hands down) with and seems a little deeper. I am trying the Nels Sharpshooter (5 x 9) DD coil today. I generally run my omega now at 16 disc and high a sensitivity as location will allow. I use the AT mode a lot in sand lots and low trash areas. This machine has a some different features than the M6 and is lighter. The M6 is a great machine especially when you run it hot. The 5.3 eclipse was my favorite coil. The 950 is good in open areas and me personally could pinpoint better with that coil than any coil larger than 7 inches that I have used. I had a wrist injury which got me in the teknetics. I own and enjoy both the gamma and the omega. HH Cal

The Omega and the Fisher F5 are almost the same machine, except one is digital and the other analog/digital (knobs, not menu driven).

I believe Mark (NC) has both, so he would know if they both detect as deep.

Thanks for the replies, Yes, Cal I have no complaints about the M6, just looking for something a little deeper, and (like you) lighter would be good too. From what I see on line the omega looks really nice for it's price. I read that the new software (Ver.4 or 5) has solved the chatty noise problem. I hope someone with the 11" coil will chime in....

a cyclic hobby and we see people come-and-go, or the models they use often come-and-go.

It could be a combination of both no use or no interesting finds. We also have to remember that it is a hot summer for many (I know it is for me!), some might be off on vacation, a few might have other makes/models they switch off from, and then there is the 'new' factor. It could be a 'new' competitor's model, or a new unit from under the same roof (Bounty Hunter or Fisher or Teknetics) and we know FTP has several hitting the market. I'll have a Fisher F-19 arriving this week to evaluate, and others might also be trying other detectors out.

I own several detectors and my Omega went out on loan to a friend so I haven't been using it this summer, and my hunting has been limited due to back problems, knee problems and too many 3-digit days. That said, I can tell you that if I had it back I would have put it to use because it has a place in the types of hunting I do.

You want one because ???

What do you use now? What have you been using for the past year or two?

What types of sites do you usually choose to hunt? What kind and amount of trash do you encounter? What are you usually searching for: Older coins and artifacts, modern coins, or concentrating on gold and silver jewelry?

Why are you thinking of the 11" DD coil? Since you have a Garrett Ace 250 w/11" DD and White's M6 w/950, do you only use larger-size search coils and only hunt places where the perceived "depth" is always needed? Do you ever hunt trashier places where a smaller-size search coil has a distinct advantage? I used a 9" coil on my MXT All Pro, but that's usually the largest coil I put to work. as I hunt trashier or brushier places, as a rule. I use a 6

Hi Monte, Glad to meet you, have read many of your posts. Actually since I got the m6 I rarely use the Ace anymore. (The ace with the 14" coil is very nose heavy and I'm 68 years young).. I like the M6. Not knocking the Ace, ( I found a lot with it) but the M6 is just better. I Live in Maryland about midway between Baltimore and Washington. I am presently hunting local (older) schools. somewhat trashy but not real bad. I have the opportunity to hunt several local homes in my area that date back to the mid 1800's as well as a couple foundations that are in near by woods. Don't know the age but they are stone foundations. I do plan to order a smaller coil for the m6. Either the 5.3 or 6x8 sef.. I see good reports on both. I know that being able to separate good targets from trash is important. I like the Omega (If they have indeed fixed the noise issue) and I just feel that the targets at the old home sites will be deep, hence the 11"dd coil....Thanks
