where to hunt after a cyclone

Hi guys,
i am wondering if i could get some quick answers from the forum. We are expecting a cyclone today and it should be over by Monday and i was wondering as i live 5 mins from the beaches here, where is the best place to search on Monday ? is it at the waters edge,or in the wet sand or where the tide dropped stuff on the dry sand, any help will be absorbed and tried out.

Cheers Maureen..

Black sand areas and where the sand have been removed the most by wave action and before the next high tides starts returning the sand.
I was waiting for a bit of that wind action.

PS. Be early, before dawn if there have been a good deal of sand erosion.

On the beach just follow the natural gutter formation from one end of the beach to the other. Its best at low tide and the guttering will be close to the waters edge. I suggest to bring a friend along to dig because you are gonna be digging quite a bit if its a popular beach. If you want lots of sinkers for your tackle box this will get you more then a few. Good luck!

Sheesh! After seeing the picture and film footage of the Yasi aftermath the beaches and all they contained were shifted, blown and washed up and about anywhere the mind could imagine. Some didn't even exist anymore.
Looks like the question is now, where the hells the beach? Here's hoping you guys survived it all OK. Reckon too there would be some pretty severely traumatised people about those areas who might get a bit upset seeing some-one lob in and start hunting (in their minds) for their lost treasured possessions. Personally id wait.

My guess is you are talking about TC Bianca near WA and not TC Anthony or TC Yasi which have both made their visits severely known on the East coast.
Some beaches in WA due to their size would require a large coil mounted on a cart or drawn behind an ATW.

We actually missed our cyclone, it missed us where we live in w.a. we were warned but it didn't happen. As i mentioned in a previous post we must have been in a pocket very lucky.

We were plagued more with fire not nice at all, again not near us we went through fire once and lost lots i wouldn't like to experience it ever again.

Cheers Maureen..

Hi thirdbornau:

I'm glad to hear the cyclone missed you.
Do you have any idea how Magnetic Island faired.Thats up your way isn't it?
I was there in 1985 and say pictures of a storm that had hit years before; There wasn't a tree that wasn't bent or had any leaf left.
It was a real mess.

Take care
Katz

BT i only hunt the beach i couldn't show up near other peoples property, as you said it wouldn't be right enough damage done without me rubbing it all in.

HH Maureen..

Magnetic island and Townsville lost a lot of trees but no real damage to buldings at all, the clean up is almost complete . A lot of sand has gone so i will look under it!
Regards Mark

Hey doc11 and all

A few Aussies on this site it appears hey? So cool.... I've always just visited the X-Terra forum. Me thinks I be coming back to this spot more often now.

For the others, let me introduce myself. Snoopy36 (or SuperSnoopy36 on youtube) here from Townsville Queensland. I'm a bit of a beginner in the world of MD compared to many people I know. I have been swinging only since Oct 2009 first with the Gold Snoop Pro, then now with X-Terra 705. I sold my Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II earlier this week and bought a Sovereign GT. Still waiting for that one to arrive :)

Anyway, regarding the cyclone, I tried the Strand (our esplanade) a few days after the cyclone and didn't find a whole lot. I tried EVERYWHERE on this particular part of the beach. A couple of rings (none gold) and some loose change was all I got. I tried another beach too and found a nice cut in the sand so I tried there. Again nothing to write home about. Found some older bottles (e.g. 70's- 80's type glass coke bottle) and some buttons and sinkers.

Hey Mark - when we goin for a swing?

Cheers
