Where would I find a book on tokens and their values????

Hi digitrich,

"Renniks" put out a publication every two years on Australian Coins and Tokens but weather they do one for other countries I don't know, maybe they have a web site that you can check out.

Hope this helps......Regards....Boony

You could also go on Ebay and go into the Coins section and look under US Trade Tokens. Then just punch in either the State that your Tokens are from or just type in the place name and area the Token was used at and the search should pull something up if there is another like it being sold. This will give you an idea on what your Token is worth and what they are being sold for. What State are you in? I have a Token Book that is called Standard Catalog of United States Tokens 1700-1900. It is made by Russell Rulau. It has lots of different Tokens from every State along with Hard Times Tokens and Civil War Tokens, but it only lists a certain amount of Tokens for each State since there is way too many Tokens that were made and it would take volumes and volumes to even try and list them all. It would take a lot of time just to even accomplish the task of writing all the different Tokens down and doing research on them to find out how many were produced (if possible) and what kind of prices one could expect to pay for them. Very hard to find pricing on Tokens unless you find a Collector. I do know a Collector and if you would like to sell any duplicates that you may have found, I could give you his info. Could sell them, trade them for very nice old coins either Silver or Gold depending what you have. Hope this helps a bit and Good Luck and HH.

I saw that book by Ralau on Amazon but it stops at 1900, most of my tokens are younger I think. I've got a "state of Washington tax commission token", a "this token is my contribution of 25 cents to save old iron sides deposited in the national bank of patriotism" token. A bunch of "good for tokens" and a "Midwest transit bus token" some of these are cooler than the coins I find. It's amazing that you can go to Borders books and find value books on paper Barby dolls and salt and pepper shakers but not on tokens??? If in 2 months I've found ten of these in two years I'll have over 200 and it's gonna suck to not have a simple book reference to check them with. I wonder why that Ralau guy doesn't print one for post 1900 tokens. Oh, I also have found a couple of those play money ones. You know, the craziest thing is when someone does do a series of token books the values of our tokens will sore because that in itself will create a market.

The Washington State Sales Tax Token is a common Token for sure since I have found 3 of them in North Dakota so far and you are lucky to get a $1 for it. The Iron Sides Token could be a good one since it has history and most likely a very collectible piece. I do know that there is a North Dakota Token Book that has most of the Tokens in it but there is still quite a few that are not listed in it. It only tells the rarity of the Tokens and what the composition is, Denominations, Size, Shapes, and sometimes it gives the years they were in use, but it doesn't say anything on value. I imagine there is Thousands of Tokens just for you State alone and it would take a huge effort to even try to list them all and it is very hard to know just how many of each Token exist's. The other bad thing is if there is a Hoard of certain Tokens found. This drops the price big time so it is very hard to know if a certain Token is going to climb in value or drop like a rock to near valueless level. 10 Tokens in 2 Months is pretty good! I found 8 Tokens in 1 Month this last year and about 25 Tokens in all for the year. They sure are fun to find and are actually better to find than a common Silver Dime. And they are fun to collect also. So I hope you keep finding them and add to your collection and Good Luck and HH. And one other thing you could try is go to your local Coin Dealer and ask him if he has any idea on prices for your Tokens. If he see's a good one, he will offer to buy it for a certain price and then you can just tell him or her that you just wanted to find out if they were worth much. This way then you have an idea somewhat that you may have a good Token and whatever the Dealer tells you for a price, you can double or even triple the price since most Dealers are just in it to make a buck.
