Which backup detector would you get

You lost me at "that is not another Xterra". I guess E-Trac being that Xterra is not an option. I haven't found a reason to go with another brand.

I am fortunate enough to have a XT-70 and a XT-705.

Keep a different kHz coil on each.

My wife and I usually MD together.

My backup land MD is a Tesoro Silver uMax, old steady.

I did get a AT-Pro on sale for deeper water use (couldn't afford a Excal).

Starting to leave it home on our land only hunts.

No comparison to the X-Terra IMHO.

Next time I'll get an Excal for the water.

I use all 4 of mine for different types of hunts but if I had to pick just 2 it would be Etrac and Xterra

I like Denny have both the X-Terra 70 and 705. I would not want a lesser machine for a backup. I keep the 10.5 DD MF coil on the 705 and the 5X10 DD HF on the 70. Would not consider anything else. HH TomB

Tom,

I am excited about getting that 10.5 MF DD Coil.

Someday soon I hope!

I do have the 9' 3kHz hits hard on all coins.

Tell me why I need to get the 10.5 MF, I know you can do it!

Explorer and AT Pro. I still use the Xterra most, The Explorer has its place and the AT Pro I purchased for the swimming holes. I think a guy needs to use any of them enough to become proficient with any of them. The only draw back for the Garrett machine is that it has no ground tracking feature, oh well. I run 2 of them about about 50% of my outings. Usually Xterra & Explorer, in that order. The water is still to fast, deep and cold for now. Another month and a half and that will change. I am looking forward to doing some water hunts.

That makes for a pretty well rounded stable.

What I am thinking is that I need a backup pinpointer. Or at least backup batteries, HAHA.

Etrac primary and Xterra 505 secondary but wish it was the 705.....

I run with a xterra 705 and a Explorer se would also love to have a sovereign gt then I would be happy :beers:

My main MD is a minelab xt 505. I bought my wife a tesoro compadre to use. That is my back up MD, love both.

I have X-Terra 70's for both main and backup now, :twodetecting: but if I were to go with a different make backup I'm thinking it would be a Tesoro Vaquero. Fairly inexpensive, simple, light, deep seeker, able to determine what is under the coil (usually) with the disc knob, and lifetime warranty. I think it would make a good backup for coins and jewelry if I couldn't have my second XT-70

I'd like to try a Tesoro Compadre someday.

I had a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 for a VERY short time. Didn't have the depth of the X-Terra's, but the ID was accurate. I'd use it again...

I just got the at pro as my back up and it is a monster, I still love my x-terra of course, but there is a new Sheriff in town. ^_^

I didn't have the same luck with the at pro.

I bought it primarily as a water machine to go where my XT-70 and XT-705 couldn't.

After other issues it finally went back for repair ( leaking ) after 5 weeks.

I do not consider this machine water proof, only water resistant

I did get a used Tesoro Tiger Shark in the interim for strictly in water use (couldn't afford Excal) and am satisfied with it.

If ML would make a WP X-Terra I would be ecstatic!

AT pro may be a sheriff but the E.Trac is a marshal LOL ,
I use the E.Trac on land 90% of the time and on the beach i use the E.Trac during the winter months when the SE winds take the beach off a bit.
The X.T. 705 is used on the dry beach as its a great cash cow and cheap too run.
I do have the X.P. Deus but that for sale, i just dont like the tones and a few other things but am only selling it due to needing extras for my new Whites TDI ,
am getting a new coil and other bits from Razorback coils in a few weeks when the Deus is gone.
The TDI is for sandy beaches when i get the chance and for some Roman sites too as they punch through iron and mineralisation like Pershing 11 's through bunkers.
Hope Minelab bring new models out in the next year, i think that hear in Europe they need to upgrade , the Deus may not be my cup of tea but they are selling like hot cake here.
Dont want to see Minelab end up like C.Scope , now thats a company that could up its game ! but thats a British company LOL

Know you said other than an X-T for a backup detector, but have an XT-70 as a backup to my Safari and couldn't be happier to have it as such . Got to be honest with you though, I keep the XT-70 for how well it hits on gold while the Safari is my silver hunting demon....
