Which coil do you prefer and why ?

I've talked to a couple of XP users and they prefer to use the 9" over the 11" I would assume the 9 to be lighter and better in high trash. Do you lose that much depth by not using the bigger coil ? I haven't decided which one to start with when I buy my XP.

Personally I prefer the 9". I think the depth is pretty close to the 11" but I like the feel much better. The 11" felt a bit front heavy to me.

Try these:

It depends. I started out with deus and 9" coil. Since purchased another deus with 11" coil. Where are you going to hunt??
For field relic hunting =11" coil
Real close to old home sites= 9" coil
For beach=11" coil
Park setting =11" coil
More out in the yard of old houses=11"coil
Hunting around old stadiums/bleachers=either will do
Hunting where square nails are numerous/heavy=9" coil
It's more of a fine line when choosing between them.
The 11" coil I feel is deeper on average soil, on hotter soil the 9" will probably be a little deeper.
The 11" coil will be more prone to pick up EMI vs 9" coil.
I will say this. Stay away from the 13x11 coil. Too heavy and too big(EMI magnet)-only advantage is increased coverage.
I would recommend beginners to start with 11" coil. Used dues coils by themselves are unusal to find except maybe the monster coil. But we already talked about it. Finding a used 9" coil would be a stretch. XP should start offering the machine with both coils. In doing so it would be priced in the CTX range moola wise.
Good luck whatever decision you make.

I was only using the 11 once I got it but last couple hunts been back on the 9.......I am fickle I guess...LOL

From John Tracy.. Where most of my hunting occurs, I have a field of nails to contend with ... so the 9 should do a better job than my 11... However, i will keep the 11 since i am certain that there will be times that i want it, and it will serve me better than the 9

But for now, i will use the 9

Squirrel1 summed it up very well . . . based on what type of hunting you plan on doing (are you planning on searchign ghost towns in NM?), one coil will be used more than the other. If you are in a ghost town site, target seperation will win out over ground coverage and raw depth. If you are in areas where there are fewer targets and depth is important, the 11" coil wins . . . . .

If you can pin down the type of hunting you plan on doing, we can probably give you a more informed answer to help you decide which coil is the better choice.

9'' on most of my roman and saxon sites as these usually have a fair amount of trash on them, mainly use small coils anyway.

I have all 3 and use all 3.I hunt large areas so the 13" & 11" cover way more ground. If i find an area producing more coins than usual i'll use the 9" to go over.when i got mine the 9" was standard with the Deus, the 13" was optional.also came with the 220 charger, wasn't a dealer here at the time. Use the 9" in real trashy spots and in the woods, use the 13" more than the 11",just because i used it longer and really can't see where the 11' is better, maybe weighs a bit less.if i had to have 1 coil it will be the 9"
