Which HF Coil?? 9" round OR Elliptical??

unearth

Member
Needs some opinions here. I live in So. Cal and am trying to decided whether to get the HF 9" round or the Elliptical HF coil. Most of my hunting is in parks, which are full of a LOT of trash. During the summer months I do a lot of beach hunting. I have the 9" and the 11" standard round coils, but was wondering if getting either of the HF coils would make a measurable difference for the money spent. Anyone in So. Cal have any experience in this area? I understand that the elliptical has not been released to the general public yet, but how about some testers out there? I see that both coils work well in Europe, especially in England, but how about the south western US? Any help/info in this area will be greatly appreciated.

I'm going for the elliptical as soon as I can get it.

Most of my hunting is in relatively trash-free woods, but the trashy spots are truly a pain, even with upped reactivity (11" coil). I'm looking forward to winnowing out some goodies from in-between nails, screws, foil, and pull tabs (to name a few).

I live further North of you, more in Central California.

Currently, Have both the regular 9" and HF 9". If I were to Beach hunt would go with the HF coil because I've seen the advantages it has with smaller finds, Since you already have the 9" wait and purchase the elliptical for micro jewelry hunting. Sounds to me you're more into gold jewelry type of hunts, the elliptical may be what you need.

The regular 9" is still petty good for gold jewelry, so I think you're ok if you were to pass on the 9" HF coil. That's a lot of bucks getting both HF Coils, Plus the elliptical may be able to operate with higher sensitivity due to it's smaller footprint thus gaining back depth.

Also, In mineralization smaller coils such as the 9" versus 11" the 9" coil will detect deeper. So we may see an advantage with the elliptical detecting deeper than the 9" or 11" in tougher soil because of the smaller footprint that I am hoping to see. But in good ground naturally the larger coil will detect deeper, just wanted to toss this out there for those thinking about using smaller coils which do have better separation and greater depth under certain conditions.

I use the HF coil for other reasons, much better separation in area's laced with iron. The higher kHz is opening up old pounded areas again, I'm surprised no one else using a HF coil is sharing this. I did a couple months back, but it showed little interest. Eventually, Others that hunt in thick iron will be reporting what I am experiencing. Just a matter of time, Serious relic hunters will see the advantages of using a HF coil with the Deus.

I will be purchasing the elliptical myself, then may sell the regular 9" keeping both HF 9" and HF elliptical coil.

Good luck, if you do purchase the 9" HF coil sell off one of the other coils to help recoup some $$ or wait for the elliptical.

All the best,
Paul

Thanks all. I really appreciate the input. And thanks Paul for the descriptive reasons behind the different coils.

Though I did not comment on your post stating this, it was a big aha moment for me in terms of considering the 9" HF coil. I am planning to purchase for this exact reason. Really appreciate the heads up.
