Hey Guys thinking about getting a deep PI . my question is.,as far as meteorite shooting goes, is there any real difference between the units - depth, discrimination,stability. thanks for any thoughts or experiences you might have had with these machines.so much different models. don't know which one to buy? so much information - digital, analog,connection to PC or not, different target Identification...I read, read and read - soon will be creazy:wacko:
 
The Whites TDI is the way to go easy to learn and use and it hits very small targets at amazing depths!! I found a bobby pin at about three feet in mineralized soil at a river in my area, I was just about astounted at finding a target that small and deep!! No VLF detector in the world will find targets like a PI!!!

If you want to learn about the TDI a good thing is to go to Whites TDI forum.
Read the posts by Reg and others for a great understanding of the potential
and versitility of the Tdi and an inside look at how ground balance actually
works. Don't forget to go back a few months on the TDI Tech.

I already know about the TDI I was responding to the question of which PI to purchase. I have been using mine for about 8 months now and am very happy with its preformance also I have been an Industrial and Electronics Technician for the past 25 years so nothing on this forum that pertains to electronics digital SMT or analog is not hard for me to comprehend....

I currently own three PI units - the Minelab GPX 4500, White's TDI, and Garrett Infinium.

In general the GPX is my nugget machine, the TDI I use for in-town detecting (tot lots, beaches) and the Infinium is my underwater unit.

If I were going meteroite hunting I'd probably go with my GPX-4500 and the Coiltek UFO coil (12" x 24" mono) not so much for depth but for ground coverage. The TDI would be my other choice as it is easily hip mounted which makes swinging the stock coil very nice for long hours. In theory I could use the UFO coil on the TDI but the UFO coil would be too heavy to use on the TDI hip mounted. The GPX harness and bungee make better sense running the big coils.

Truthfully, they all work. I think getting out and putting in lots of hours is more important than which particular unit I'm using. A person with the "best" unit who only hunts a few days a year is not going to do as well as that guy with the "not as good" unit who gets out constantly and really gets in lots of hours. So at some point just bite the bullet and go.
