Which small coil should I get for my SE....I'm ready to buy

I went to a very old abandoned train station. It may have never been searched. Not sure because of several inches of snow and my 10" coil.

What approx 5" coil would you recommend. I'd like to find a used one if I can or something under $150 new.

Wouldn't a 5" x 10" still give me trouble in trashy areas?

i just got a sunray 8 inch coil for my se, it came highly recomended. havent tried it yet , snow ,

I have the Sunray X-5 stealth (concentric) and had good luck with it. I haven't tried any other small coils for the Explorer.
A friend used the 4.5 x 7 for his SE and has done well with it. He tried a few small coils and felt the 4.5 x 7 was the ticket. He no longer has the SE so I didn't try the 4.5 x 7 myself.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to find a used one because $180 is a little out of my budget.

stable at high Sensitivity.

The 6" EXcelerator is a very good coil on the SE check out this post by Bryce-IL

PM Me if Interested in a 5" or 8 inch Coil... I've never used my 5 inch excelerator coil and have about 8 hours on the 8" Minelab coil. However, I'm personally sold on the 6 inch excelerator coil with about 40 hours under my belt with it. I'll be using my 6" Excelerator coil until the coil cover wears off, then I'll get me another. Confidence, listening, attitude and experience is 85% of the game anyway. Happy Hunting...

I also have the Joey 5X10, 7.5" M/L, Platapus 10X12,. I got to get rid of a few of them . The Excellerators stay though. :D: :D: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

I didn't like my 14 inch on the beach in Texas, just got the 16.5 and have two WOT's I am going to try.

I may be interested in the 6" coil. Trash is my concern. Would smaller than 6" make a big difference?

I have not bought the 12.5 and the 16.5" Excellerators for my SE yet. They are coming though. I liked them so much on my GT and brother are they deep with real reliable ID's. I was digging repeatable good, no doubt in your mind, dig able targets like dimes at 14"s with the 10X14" on my SE. The GT with the 16.5" was hitting dimes at 15 and 16"s good Audio good ID no jumping around numbers. I really spent some time with all three coils and I really dug some stuff. will post what I got while I was over there soon as I get settled in and catch up on all the stuff I got to do. I was gone for 6 weeks and hunted every day except for 7 days. I hunted about 5 to 6 hours on the beach each day. The 16.5 is light for it's size. I was surprised. It don't false as I dragged it on that black sand and it done great. The 10X14 on my SE did not false either but it is just a little heaver then the 16.5. I drug the 10X14 on the black sand also and it worked great, no falsing. The 12.5" Excellerator on my GT was out standing. Got good ID and good audio, no doubt in your mind, dig able targets at 12 and 13"s. The Excellerators love stuff on edge. I dug a lot of Damn it can't be this deep targets. All of them worked excellent in that wet black sand and iron trash also. No telling how deep they will go in nice sand. That beach I was working has a lot of bits and pieces of Iron, a high ferrous content and a hell of a lot of black sand. The Excellerators just worked great. I was very happy with there performance. I was getting good ID and good dig able audio with the 6" Excellerator coil at 8"s and the 4X7" excellerator at 8 and 9"s on my SE. There were so many targets that I did not bother digging Iffy targets unless they were deep pull tab targets. I just don't think I ever dug so many on edge targets and you don't lose many of the targets in the hole either with the Excellerator coils like you do sometimes with the M/L coils. The SE has a excellent Pinpoint on it and when you are on a real deep iffy the pinpoint will tell you a better conduct number then when you are swinging on the iffy target. I have got to send my SE back to M/L as I think the 10" coil is bad. Since the 12.5 and the 16.5 did so well on my GT I am going to buy both for my SE after seeing how well they performed. Hope this helps. Will post later what all I got over there after I separate everything and get everything counted. :D: :D:  Jerry aka Tinfoil

I am running cranked up. The Excellerators handled the Iron and wet black sand cranked up and running hot, better then the Platypus, Joey, and the M/L coils. What can I say. Results, ID, and depth count and all the rest ain't nothing but BS. Thats the way I see it. :D: :D:  Later Jerry aka tinfoil

People complain about the falsing, but it never really bothered me, I could tell the difference between it and a real signal so after a while it was like being in all metal and ignoring the iron.

Hello,Bryce my name is kevin I live in OH.I,m new to the forum and i was reading the forum and notice someone was asking about what small coil they should use for their SE
I noticed you said when the coil cover was gone you were going to get another one.I have a suggestion for you i have a freind that had the same problem just a day ago and i told
him of a product i had used before on my coil. You spray it onto the coil surface and it is a rubber texture. It wont crack, break,or become brittle it takes four hours to dry and you
can go hunting the next day.You get it at Lowe's or maybe at Home Depot the name of the product is PLASTI DIP it's in the paint isle.............
