White's 10" 2d vs Excelerator 10" DD coil

I have the 10" EXcelerator, Its a great coil. I can't give a comparison because I have never used the D2, But from reading the posts on here I think the only difference is the quality of the coil. buy that I mean it is better built { U.S.A.} made......................:usaflag:.......

Unless you are using the new Vision you will be OK. Then the problem would only show up with the boost feature. I really like my 10". Rob

I've got the EX. Rob

I don't see any reason that one coil would be much if any different than the other. They are both 10 inch DD coils, same size and same type of coil, the main difference would have to be in build quality as Hillbilly Bob said. I have the excelerator coil and am happy with it, the whites D2 would have cost twice as much at the time i bought my coil. Price is the main reason I bought an excelerator instead of the Whites coil. If they would have been the same price I would have chose the Whites coil.

and I would say they are a little more rugged than the other coil.

I don't know where it came from that Excelerator coils are not of the same quality as the White's coils. I have been using White's and Excelerators coils for years and I don't see one bit of difference as far as quality goes between the two. HH Dennis in Idaho

I just tried out the White's 10 inch DD coil and was blown away by the greater difference in depth and sensitivity compared to the 6x10 dd white's coil. I believe it will be my primary coild when I get out to NV in a few weeks. Even a bit of a broken zipper in a tot lot, that I had gone over before with the 6x10 and did not get a hit on, blew my ears off. It is deffinitly deeper and more sensitive than the 6x10dd. Both should be good in highly mineralized soil as then are both double density. My 10dd does have the V on it so it is better constructed to be able to used the boost on a White's Vision.

Arizonaames you state that your Whites 10" coil is better constructed because it has a V stamped on it. How is it better constructed and why would it be more sensitive than the 6x10? HH Dennis in Idaho

You and and I have had great luck with the Excelerators, Dennis. The 10D2 should be deeper than the 6x10 it's bigger, my 10"EX (my favorite coil) is deeper. The V doesn't mean it is better constructed, it means the nulling has been taken to a higher tolerance to accommodate the 3 frequencies and boost feature of the new detector. Except for the 3 V coils in production, there is no guarantee with the other Whites made coils that they will work. These Whites coils aren't made less well constructed, they were just made before the need for closer nulling tolerances. There have been posts made that stated that some earlier Whites and Excelerators worked with the V3, there is just no guarantee that they all will work.

You know how I feel about the 10" but I used the 6" JW sent me a lot in Texas the last three months. It's going to be my go to small coil. I'll post pictures later. Now if I could work something out with JW on the 10x12 SEF I'd like to see what it could do against Larry's Vision on the 25th. Rob

I can't wait to see all your goodies. Are you and Larry getting together for some fun on the 25th? Wish I could come. HH Dennis in Idaho

I'm looking forward to the hunt Rob. We always have a great time there.
