White's Beach Hunter 300.

Hi Everyone. Just going through my annual late winter/spring detector decisions. Just curious if anyone has any experience with a Beach Hunter 300. It appears to be a stripped down ( at least dual frequency) of the DFX. Anyone use one at the beaches? How do you like it? It seems to get a bad rap and I do not see many people in any forum talking about it.

I use a BH 300.....I like it....good coverage....3 tone....id lights even in all-metal mode. Usually hunt with it hipmounted - gets heavy on the dry/wet - but not a problem in water.....I've done well with it.....my beaches have lotsa iron.....so it helps to have discrimination(hunt in all-metal and watch the lights) or tone id in discriminate mode....used to hunt with a pi - so not as much diggin' anymore. Alot is just personal preference....good luck with whatever you decide to do!
 
I believe the 300 is a larger coil version of the original Beach Hunter ID. Use the search feature and search all years on this beach forum for the word BHID and authors gobble-gobble and Beach Hunter. I think posts from a about 4 years ago might be most pertinent on setting it up for success. Some of the successes they shared with the BHID had me thinking about getting one, but I stayed with the CZ20 I had at the time. Still have the same CZ20 and have yet to try the BHID.

Jason, You can get intouch with me on FACEBOOK too...I'm a member of the Merrimac valley metal detectors page...I am the one who posted the 24k 12.3 Gram ring the other day...If you go to the White's Elec. web page see stories I got a bunch of finds posted there too..some with the D.F most are BEACH HUNTER ID/300..We live pretty close to eachother if you get one I'll show you how I set it up.
 
love my bh 300,, found alot with it. i have the v3i an ctx but when i get lazy and just want to find things i take the bh 300. not a whole lot of tweakin an thinkin. just watch lights and dig... lights are pretty rock solid in my experience with a few exceptions.. and its real deep. ive been thinkin of sellin because of the other 2 but just cant seem to let loose of it.... goodluck hh

like any detector it is the geting to know the machine that matters and how comfortable you are using it. I have a bhid and have had it for 6 years. In that time i have gotten pretty good with it and becoming what you say "one with it" i have had the coil replaced with the newwer yellow 12 inch super coil and then a new board installed because Whites didn't know exactly my issue so that is how they make it right--too bad the rest aren't the same. I still have it and always will--i have an excal II also and this is my go to machine when in the ocean and use the BHID here in the inland lakes--freah water-- I do miss taking the BHID with me to the ocean because in dry sand it doe's not miss nothing and covers ground quickly--but i must say the excal II doe's not false in the salt water and is deadly. And others that read this have their opinions as well so go with your choice--learn it--and be open minded on other detectors--read and learn from others because there is always someone on top of the game beside you. And when people use finds as reason to obtain a certain machine remeber that even the hundred dollar MD's have there 15 minutes of fame. Right place right time--but it doesn't hurt to increase your odds. HH HAPPY EASTER
 
I've used them all. If you can afford it go with an Excal. My 2nd choice would be a CZ-21. Beach Hunter works but not as well, it would be my last choice.
 
Never used one, but you don't see many (if any) at the Jersey shore. I'm guessing there's a reason why.
 
I have the bhid 300 and I think its a great machine. My coil crapped out after a year and Whites replaced it no problems. It paid for itself after the 3rd time out (just lucky). And its a pretty simple machine to use. Whatever you buy good luck and get out there!
 
I think the Beach Hunter 300 works very well......most of the time.....its very accurate and deep. I think hitting a penny at 12-14 inches on a regular basis is very good! As said...simple easy to use....easy set up....batteries last forever. For the price...I think you cant go wrong.
 
It is just the original machine with a bigger coil added as you say. Tried the new model when it came out and stuck with my original just because it had the smaller coil which better suits some of my more contaminated beach sites. Performance wise (BH 300) there's better and deeper depending which part of the beach you want to work.

My preferred beach machines...XLT can still pay its way when used on the dry with a Bigfoot coil.
 
Jay, the beauty of the BHID is the led, you can set all metal mode, and hunt off LED...and dig iffy targets based on tones.

Great machines. Only down fall. Is the coil does not have neutral buoyancy. In other words, it kinda wants to float.

Has anyone tried to modify their BHID to change coils? I just purchased a used one that is coming with the 9 1/2" coil and was wanting if there is a way to modify it to allow different coils on it.

It's hardwired....gotta send it in.....unless you're an electronics tech....gl and hh!!
 
Jimmy Z. I've been looking at that scenario , I really dont see why you couldnt snip and add coil connections and add some shrink tape or a modification of some silicone iver the connections if you plan of water hunting. The mind is a terrible thing. lol
 
Wondered the same thing. its possible. If you want to take out all the screws and remove the seal. Unsolder the coil wires and try not to destroy the small cable clam . lol. Send it in and it'll cost you around $138 bucks is what they told me. to install the 12'' coil.
 
I saw the D2 coil which is a 10'' , for the DFX, MXT units and yep. any DFX coil will fit on the BH. My next step is to make a purchase on a new coil the SEF AALSO HAS A 12X10'' sunray does make water proof conectors. so why not take the plunge and snip. the cable . Solder and connect . shrink tube and go.
