Since you haven't gotten any hits here is some info I got from Monte.
The Classic ID was based on the Classic II. They made the few changes necessary so that it used the newer Blue Max series of coils, like the Classic III Plus and Classic III SL, and then they added the Target ID circuitry and display. They used the Classic II SL circuitry to develop the Classic IDX and simply added the TID display and circuitry to the Classic III SL.
The IDX and IDX Pro have an additional knob and toggle switch, for Frequency Adjust and to select Normal or Black Sand. They have the lower-end adjustment in the Disc. range afforded by the Black Sand setting. The only real circuitry change was a very mild enhancement of the top-end of the Sensitivity setting of the IDX PRO. adjust the VR 4 trimmer to get a nice low threshold.
The original Classic III did NOT use the newer Blue Max series of coils
The IDX all had good discriminate range. Modified Classic III's have been some of the best multi-purpose detectors I have ever used on the beaches
Later on, they used a Classic III SL and added the same Target ID circuitry to produce the Classic IDX. The only difference between the IDX and Classic III SL (at that time) was that they corrected a small glitch I demonstrated to them in the discriminate range of the Classic III before they released the Classic IDX. This was a later revision in the Classic III SL's.
The IDX Pro was mainly a change that added the term 'Pro' to the title when White's established a 'Pro series' (again) about 2001. There was a little enhancement to the upper-end of the Sensitivity similar to, but not quite as much, as what Bill Crabtree had been doing with his modifications. Honestly, I have owned several IDX and IDX Pro models and never really found that much difference between them in actual in-field performance.
The more versatile of them all are the Classic III, IDX & IDX Pro models. The IDX & IDX Pro use the same basic circuitry as the Classic III which features the addition of a variable Frequency Shift control, and a toggle selector labeled Normal or Black Sand. What this control actually does is toggle into a lower-end range of discrimination adjustment in the 'Black Sand' setting so as to be able to have less bias against the ground mineral signal and to accept ALL metal targets, both ferrous (iron) and non-ferrous.
The Classic series are your typical 2-filter, slow-motion discriminators. The Classic's better choices for hunting old trashy ghost towns or city play-lots.

Except if that's a cut-and-paste, I noted a few errors. I try to proof things but it's easy to miss things now and then.
