Rick,
It is sad news. I remember White's advertising in magazines back in the 60's when I was a kid wanting to buy one. Own an MXT and am very pleased with it. Our hobby will keep going strong, not to worry. It will just have less U.S. made products.

Garrett bought out White's!

Yep Garrett bought out Whites . What a combination! Can’t wait for the assembly line to start rolling out new detectors!

... Being bought by Garrett is a good thing.
Seriously? The only winner is garrett! (and hopefully K.White if he did right) ... and the white's brand is history. Just from the moment garrett bought them white's web presence has vanished. They bought a competitor and eliminated him. That's it, and there is nothing wrong with this. The one who suffers is the White's user. (leaves a bad taste, huh?)
Don't be blinded by the light.

Garrett's acquisition of White's is not the worst thing that could have happened. If anything the IP is in the hands of a competent AMERICAN manufacturer that still has the ability to innovate and bring a product to market that consumers want to purchase. For whatever reason White's just like Tesoro lost their ability to market a product that people wanted to buy. Their (White's) designs became stale and could not compete with the Equinox or the AT series in features for the amount of money spent. We'll have to wait and see what Garrett does with the IP they purchased. Will they continue the White's legacy and build a handful of White's designs along side their normal offerings? Or, will they create a hybrid line using the best features from both manufacturers? Hopefully it is the latter and they make something revolutionary.
