White's PI 1000

I recently purchased a second hand White's PI 1000. I know it's an old machine and it appears to be fairly sensitive but I was wondering if there are any circuit mods available that would increase sensitivity or performance. <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?">

I keep telling folks what has been done can be done, and boosting the detection depth of the PI 1000 was something we all learned to do.
There was a simple way of boosting the depth pentetrating ability of the PI 1000 by about two thirds, but it has been too long ago for me to remember how.. It was as easy as soldering a common componnent to the circuit. Sorry, I can't be of further help.
The PI 1000 vibrator head phone was the best idea yet for under water detecting. It was something you could tuck out of the way in your bathing suit and feel a hit and not have to listen to a lot of whining through the earphones of later models.
The PI 1000 has a problem with water leaking thru the switch. You might want to consider a different switch before you take it underwater to any depth. There has been a lot of Treasure recovered with that little detector. I hope you are just as successful. Dell

Dell it would be great if you could remember the mod.or if some one could tell us what this mod. was.
Regards
Kris

Sorry! They used to tell me that memory would be the first thing to go. I can't remember what they said would be second, but I'm sure it's gone too. Dell

Thanks Dell! I can only hope that someone out there remembers what the mod was.

I have a WHITE PI-1000,I lowered delay and gain.there is not that much inprovement.before mod, it would detect a nickel about 5" after 9". with a larger coil. its not worth it.what did you pay for it.

I picked it up at a flea market for $35.00. Had no battery pack and a couple of circuit problems that I repaired (found a schematic on-line)and built my own battery pack for it. Seems to work fine now but haven't tried it in the water yet. I'm pretty confident that it will survive though as I've bought a new o-ring for the lens. Only worried about the switch leaking now.

good price. dont forget to replace o-ring at switch.
Frank.
